Dae Jang Gum @ Taman Danau Desa, KL

Initial plan to head to Seoul Korea to celebrate my birthday required a slight as we found out the place was closed when we reached there (least expect a Korea restaurant to close during eve of Raya)... anyway, gotta resolve to Plan B. Suggested by Kim to go Dae Jang Gum (what a popular name used for Korean restaurant), which is located on the same row.
And lucky we were early, as the place got really busy towards later, as some of the customers which I saw, walked towards Seoul Korea, and turned back to Dae Jang Gum, after finding out it was closed.

We were served with banchan. The spread doesn't excite me too much, guess I have been spoilt with choices from Seoul Korea. However, they were decent, and we still had 2nd round of helping.

Spread of banchan

The kimchi soup was good... spicy enough.

Kimchi Pot. Price-RM15

The korea seafood pizza was 1 of the best that I tasted. It was really crispy on the edges, yet was with the right amount of thickness, and ingredients filled within.

The BBQ pork was indeed very tasty, and was springy when chewed.

Of all, the ginseng soup was quite a let down. It has a very bland taste, and doesn't carry enough ginseng taste that is expected from this bowl of goodies.

Ginseng Soup. Price-RM25

We just had to order the fried glass noodle, which happened to be 1 of my favorite in Korean food. Just love the texture of the noodle, and this plate was fried with enough ingredients... The sesame seed and oil used lent a wonderful aroma to this plate of noodle, and overall, tasty.

Thanks bud, for buying over this banoffee cake from Alexis... ignore the 'melting effect' of the cake. Btw, bud, I love this necklace & pendant !

Me with the 3 gals. Thanks gal for the birthday celebration.

We too had the hot & cold sake the other night.. The hot sake tasted weird, somehow... but the cold sake was a lot of better.

Seoul Korea @ Taman Danau Desa, KL

After hearing how much Yee Miin love Korean food, I decided to bring her to my No 1 favorite Korean restaurant, before she heads back to Christchurch.

When we arrived at 6pm, Seoul Korea just reopened for dinner. We were the 1st customers in, and before long, they were totally packed.. What a good business on a Thursday night.

Absolute charmer, Ellie

I was salivating as the banchan were placed on our table. My absolute favorite ought to be the cuts of seaweed... so tasty.

Yummylicious Banchan

As Maegan and Ellie can't take spicy food, we ordered the BBQ chicken and Seafood. Thought it was a generous portion of BBQ chicken at a price of only RM25. I think we can now hardly find any other Korean restaurant serving BBQ chicken at a price this low.

We simply love the well marinated chicken. Tasty was all I have to described this.

BBQ Chicken. Price-RM25

I don't usually enjoy kimchi soup, but I thought this would be a must try for Korean food lovers. After taking a sip each, Yee Miin and I were continuously complimenting this hot pot of kimchi soup. This was just perfect... Not overly spicy, has just the right level of 'kimchi-ness', and we absolutely loved this.. ~ double thumbs up ~

Kimchi Soup. Price-RM16

The seafood was also good. They were soaking wet with marination, and after being barbecued, it doesn't overkill the freshness of the prawns and squid.

Seafood - Prawn & Squid. Price-RM25

Half way cooked...

A satisfying Korean meal.. Can't wait to see Yee Miin & her kids, again.. Hope won't need to wait another 4 years for that.

Seoul Korea @ Taman Danau Desa, KL

Seoul Korea has always been on my list of restaurant to try out, and since we were due to meet for Sam's belated birthday celebration, I took the chance to suggest this place. Dinner is to take place on Sat, and thank god I called earlier to make reservation, as the queue was relatively long (customers were queuing at the staircase, as this restaurant is located at 1st Floor). And I was looking for parking at 7.10pm (my reservation of 7pm will be held for 10mins), and the lady boss already called to check if I was coming, otherwise, they will give up my table for the waiting customers.
Glad that we had a room, and criteria for reservation on weekends is to have min spend of RM150.
Our initial order fall short, and we ordered the extra to make-up to RM150.

We were starving at the time we made our order... and under the full house situation in the restaurant, we didn't need to wait too long for our food to be served.

Doesn't look like so, but this restaurant is full with customers (all seated, with many of them still queuing outside)

To my opinion, Seoul Korea has the best selection of banchan (side dishes), and the tastiest that I've ever tried. Seriously! They even gave pork banchan which was simply delicious, and steamed egg. I also absolutely love the crispy seaweed. Overall, highly satisfied! Can't wait to have this again, and again.

Banchan served by Seoul Korea

The marination by Seoul Korea was absolutely top class, as both the bbq pork and chicken that we ordered was tasty to the max. Tender and juicy. Yumms!

'Dae-Ji Gal-Bi' Pork Spare Rib. Price-RM25

I loved the chicken here, as it still retained its chicken juiciness, even after BBQ. Yumm.. and tasty to the max.

'Dak Bulgogi (Spicy)'. Spicy Chicken BBQ. Price-RM25

The Korea Style steamboat (casserole) looked interesting to us. Though it doesn't look any close to the menu, we liked the sweetness of the soup, and the tender pork which came with its most natural sweetness.

'Bulgogi Jeongol'. Marinated BBQ Steamboat (Casserole)

Have always liked Korean Style Seafood pancake. Thus ordered 1 to try. This pancake was slightly crispy on the outside, while brought us the right thickness throughout, and bite that went along with seafood, nice!

'Hae-Mul Kimchie-Jeon' Korean Style Seafood Kimchi Pancake. Price-RM20

The pork spare rib bbq marinated with traditional korean recipe was alright.. It has a more plain taste, and while chewing the meat, it feels like having finely cut slices of pork. Not exactly something I'd order the next time.

Traditional style marinated BBQ. Price-RM35

Next time I will remember to use the 'flash' function when I passed my camera for others to take pix. This turned out a little blurry.. :(

After paying the bill, we were presented with this complimentary slices of really sweet watermelon, and a bottle of ginger drink.

Complimentary watermelon, which was really sweet, and bottle of ginger drink

Overall, I was highly satisfied with the dinner here, and it had me posting on FB afterwards, that I had the best korean food in town. Can't wait to be back again. With so many choices of Korean restaurants around, its no surprise to me that Seoul Korea is doing exceptionally well... Try it, and you will know it.. and overall, their price of food is truly reasonable. Plus point!

The Street Cafe @ Sunway Pyramid

Have long heard of this little cafe serving Korean food at Asian Avenue @ Pyramid, and finally got to try it last week. Reaching during lunch time, it was all crowded, and we literally got the last table available.

I liked the concept, which ties in relatively well with the name, STREET CAFE, as in fact, you get the feeling of eating at a street.. (better still, air-cond street ^^)

Busy lunch crowd

I often get a little over-excited when visited a new place, for the first time. Flipped through the menu and decided on this few items.

One thing that looks extremely tempting to us was the Korean Rice Cake in chilli sauce. We opted for the original version. This was served piping hot, and we had to be extremely careful while taking each bite. Extremely chewy texture and was spicy. Just the right portion for us.

Korean Rice Cake in Chilli Sauce. Price-RM5.90

We took the Korean BBQ chicken mixed rice with kimchi tuna soup set. By the time we finished the rice, it has still remained super hot. With the chicken, there were beansprout, carrot, dou miau / pea shoots, mushroom - enough things to eat with the rice. This rice came with sweet, and slight spicy sauce. Overall, we didn't quite like this.

The kim chi soup which was part of the set, was really nice... Yes, everything was basically piping hot... It has the right level of spiciness, and lots of tuna, which tasted like chicken, to chew on, and lots of kimchi. Liked this...

Ordered the Street BBQ chicken set, which came with rice, kimchi and soup. This was ordered for my nieces, but they 'noticed' even the very slight spiciness, so we ended up having this. The chicken was marinated well, and was juicy.

Dae Sa Kwan @ Sri Hartamas

Prior to our trip to Siem Reap, arranged for a meet up between the 4 of us that were going. Narrowed our choice to Korean food, and my No 1 choice for Korean is Dae Sa Kwan at Sri Hartamas, thus suggested to have lunch there.

The banchan served here is really one of the best, in terms of taste and the wide selection, compared to what's served by other Korean restaurants around town. This is one of the best part of Korean food - unlimited free serving of banchan.

Up to 13 variety of banchan served

A little reading and discussion on Siem Reap before the actual trip

The BBQ pork tasted just alright.

The BBQ chicken was a little more interesting. It came in a hot bowl and with lots of gravy. The ala kim chi sauce was a little spicy, to me.

From the few times I've had the seafood pancake here, the seafood pancake tasted extraordinarily good that day. It has generous portion of seafood within the pancake, and we can even taste the freshness of the seafood used.

Seafood Pancake. Price-RM30

I have always love ginseng chicken soup. This soup also known as 'samgyetang' is boiled using whole young chicken, which is stuffed with glutinous rice, and boiled in a broth of Korean ginseng, dried seeded jujube fruits, garlic and ginger. Yum yum.

Korean Ginseng Soup. Price-RM35

We also ordered a bowl of kimchi stew - it was bubbling hot when served. For kimchew lovers, this will be an ideal choice. Cooked together with beancurd, golden mushroom and slices of pork.

Restoran Haeun Khon @ Amcorp Mall, PJ

I initially plan to check out the Big Bad Wolf book sales myself after work at Amcorp, and by the time I finished work, 2 Bengs (BENG Suan and BENG Geok) decided to join me. Yipee...After the sales, I suggested to checked out this restaurant that serves 3 different kind of cuisines namely Korean, Taiwanese, Chinese restaurant at the 3rd Floor of Amcorp (as I saw it was really crowded when I was there during one of the Saturdays).

This turned out to be a right choice afterall. We all enjoyed the food here.. *<>*

The BBQ chicken set comes with 3 side dishes, a soup, and fruit. The BBQ chicken was really one of the best tasting chicken we've tried. It was so well marinated, that each bite of the chicken feels gratifying. They must have marinated the chicken with 'secret' spices, and like the slightly sweet taste of the chicken. This BBQ chicken is definitely a must-try.

BBQ Chicken Set. Price-RM13.90

We swapped our initial choice of Japanese pizza which requires 45 mins to prepare to this Japanese udon instead. Once this plate of udon was placed on the table, the aromatic smell already made my saliva drooling. Apart from it taste good, we were also quite pleased with the real big serving. The bonito flakes and seaweed topped this plate of udon, which was cooked together with chicken meat, prawns and vege.

Japanese Yaki Udon. Price-RM14.90

I love to try the chicken ginseng soup whenever I visit a Korean restaurant. This ginseng chicken has real mild taste of ginseng, that we can hardly taste the ginseng, however, the overall taste of the soup was good. It is not too watery, and the glutinous rice was boiled till real soft.

Samkyeh Tang. Gingseng Chicken Soup. Price-RM16.90

Any time I am craving for simple Korean food, I'm sure to head to Hauen Khon now onwards. Liked the fact that set meals are available.
