Frisson Coffee Bar @ Damansara Uptown, PJ

We were recommended this cafe, Frisson as the venue to celebrate my bestie's birthday dinner. Dinner is a better choice to head to Uptown, as parking space isn't as horrendous during the daytime. In fact, some of us have been here, especially for their dessert.

For a Monday night, I would say I am pleasantly surprised by the flow of customers that patronize this cafe. In fact, it was full house. Upon trying their selection of food, I could then understand why.

Frisson does serve good quality of food, with pretty varying selections, and I was most surprised with the offering of fish head curry.

Full house on Monday night
From the outside of Frisson
As a start, I had the Salted Caramel Latte. I love the slightly foamy, yet creamy and soothing coffee. This was indeed an aromatic cup of coffee, despite I wish that the taste of Salted Caramel was a tad stronger.

Salted Caramel Latte.
The food presentation was amazing, and us being there as the sun set, added point to the place. I loved moment as the sun sets, and the golden ray shined through the glass door right to our seating area.

The salad was fresh, with lots of greens, corn, tomatoes and egg. Served with vinaigrette , this surely perks up our appetite.

Classic Salad. Price-RM13.90
This I was told is one of their best seller. The grilled salmon with linguine. I liked the salmon that was so tasty, and grilled to perfection. The linguine was soaked with just the right amount of tomato sauce. It carried just the right balance of sourness, and love the smell of herb.

Salmon with Fettucine.
This version of Frisson's skinny pizza was yummy too. Very thin and cheesy. Love the melted cheese that topped this delicious piece of pizza.

Skinny Pizza

This bagel with egg, filled with beef patty, and served with melted cheese was a winner dish too. Beef was very moist.

We all nod with approval as we sipped in the creamy curry to our mouth. This pot of fish head went so well with white rice, and the flavour was very rich. Tasted better that some restaurant that served fish head curry, and yet, I still have to remind myself, yes, I'm actually having this dish in a cafe.

Verdict
A cafe that served food that tasted above expectation, and has great variety of food. Our stomach were all too full, but my friend raved about their dessert being super good, which refers to their waffle.

Awesome Canteen @ Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya

Awesome Canteen. What a lovely name to a F&B outlet. The presence of this restaurant cum cafe had somehow lifted the image of the otherwise old looking shoplots at Taman Paramount.

Ideal for photo opportunities

The glass door and window used permit lots of natural sunlight into the cafe, whilst the lights that are hanging from the ceiling gave a more natural feeling and warmness to Awesome Canteen.

Love the use of light boxes with artistic images, canteen like seating, especially the chairs, and lots of plants within.

While waiting for all to reach, I had their Carrot Cake. It had a good balance of carrot and raisin, fluffy enough, with tinge of cinnamon smell, and completed well with cream cheese frosting.

I liked their teabag tea that offered me just the right balance of taste and smell between the lemongrass and ginger.

Who wouldn't be a happy with a plate of fries for sharing? Love the thickness of the fries, dipped in the special sauce.

The beef burger served with Rocky Blue cheese tasted absolutely delicious. Meat was so juicy and marinated so well, accompanied by fries and coleslaw gave my lunch mate a fulfilling meal,

I had their butterfish. Grilled to perfection, I could feel the firm texture of the fish. The fried sweet potatoes and grilled prawns were absolutely yummy, and the sauce that accompanied this dish definitely deserved a thumbs up.

Paleo Butterfish. Price-RM27.90

My SIL highly recommended their Tofu Salad which was certainly something outside the norm. It was a delight to tried this salad. It was filled with sengkuang, tofu, lettuce, almond, pine nuts, purple cabbage, and cucumber. I perhaps missed out some ingredients too, but importantly, this was soo extremely good. The sauce striked a balance between sweetness and sourish.

Verdict : Awesome place to chill with friends. Nice homemade cakes, and one of a kind Tofu Salad.

Red Tomato @ Pantai Cenang, Langkawi

It has been more than a decade that I last been to Langkawi. I truly enjoyed my recent trip here, and I think Langkawi is one of the places that tourists to Malaysia ought to visit.

I fully depended on reviews on Trip Advisor for recommendation of F&B outlets.

Red Tomato is one of the outlets that is top on their list, and best of all, it is located strategically at Pantai Cenang area.

I love their very inviting entrance, and the restaurant was in fact filled with customers.

Busy restaurant
We ordered their salad as starter, and do expect long wait for your food. We waited close to 30 minutes, for our first dish, the salad to be served.

This was filled with lots of greens, tomatoes, avocado, mango, cucumber, cranberries and smoked pepper tuna. There were all so fresh, and the slight salty smoked pepper tuna truly complimented the salad, and with a taste of mango sweetness, this was a yummy salad.
Wellness Salad. Price-RM30.50
The Carbonara was cooked to perfection. We requested for chicken to replaced its chicken ham that was originally listed in their menu. The sauce was creamy enough and overall was a tasty plate of pasta.
Carbonara. Price-RM26
For its pizza, there is a choice of either the margherita or the basil pesto, which came with the basic ingredients, ie. tomato or basil pesto, with mozzarella cheese.
As for additional toppings, each item is priced at either RM2 or RM4, which we opted for salami and fresh mushroom.

We were very pleased with the thin and crispy pizza, and it was certainly delicious.

We left with happy stomach, and yes, this is truly a recommended restaurant.

Cake Jalan Tiung @ Menara Naza TTDI, Section 13, Shah Alam

By chance, I became a follower of Cake Jalantiung on Instagram, and I more often than not, realized that I actually salivate when I looked at how tempting the cake that this cafe produces. I was also attracted to how passionate the team behind this cafe have towards what they are doing.

Recently, I saw the news that they opened their second outlet, also within Shah Alam, and I
after numerous failed attempt to be here, I finally did, today. Yay! Have a small sense of achievement, somewhat. Haha.

Located at the corner lot below Menara Naza, I had some difficulty finding the right lift to get to the Ground Floor of this building. Apparently they have the office block lift that links to the cafe, and the one I went to was the Residences section of the building.

I can't wait to check out the cakes that await us on this Friday afternoon.

The simple cosy corner occupied by Cake Jalan Tiung
Overall, I find that they have limited choices of drink, however, I feel that it is fine, as the focus of their existence is their yummylicious cakes.

Simple offering of drinks
I love their use of simple blend of pastel colors, and the panels that matches hanging from the ceiling, and side panel of their counter.

A colorful area that is their cashier and cake display area
We ordered their Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake, and their Chocolate Tart. Both deserved thumbs up.

Lovely use of plates
Its highly tempting when I looked at this piece of cake. The chocolate cake, was insanely delectable. It has just the right level of texture which has the right balance of density, and extremely moist. It has a light coating of buttercream, and drizzled with lots of salted caramel on top of the cake. The salted caramel truly matches perfectly with the chocolate cake. The blend of saltiness, caramely taste, ooohh la la.... superb taste...

It has been a long long time that I haven't tasted something this lip-smacking.

Salted Caramel & Choc. Price-RM13

Upon feeling satisfied over the cakes, and the chocolate tart which was extremely chocolatey, we ordered their chocolate chips cookies.

The cookies were heated up slightly, and served with small glass of milk, which we are to dip into with the cookies.
Love the slightly soft cookies, and yet slightly crunchy but what kills it was the thick chocolate used within the cookies. It has the melted chocolate that tasted extremely tantalizing.

Cake Jalan Tiung also supply their cakes to quite a number of cafes around town, and the type of cake differs from time to time. Do check out their Instagram to find out more info.

Their space is rather limited, but that definitely doesn't deter their fans from flocking to this cake to fulfill their craving for cakes.

Yellow Brick Road @ Jalan Batai, Kuala Lumpur

The newly revamped shoplot at Jalan Batai has sprung a new life to this area. The combination of the cafes, and the soon to be opened Ben's Independent Grocer, seemed to bring plenty of anticipation towards this 2 row of shoplots.

If one have not been here, the queue that is a norm may have caught your attention. Decided to visit here during the odd hours, ie. the morning of a weekday.

Outdoor seating @ Yellow Brick Road

A peek into the cafe
Part of its design is the yellow mosaic blended with its cement floor which drew a connection between its swirled up yellow brick road logo. Its wooden lighted panel that resembled a tree in the center seemed to stand out among the other seating available in the cafe.

A look towards the front of the cafe

I ordered their Cappuccino. It has a highly strong aroma, and the right thickness through each sip of the cup of coffee gave me a good kick-start to my morning.

Cappuccino. Price-RM11

The green tea was certainly a good choice for one that doesn't fancy coffee. It carried a distinct taste of green tea yet well balanced off with its level of sweetness.

Green Tea.
The presentation of the Big Breakfast was overwhelming, in a good way. It came in a big pan size, filled with many parts that made up the breakfast set. It was filled with toasted rye bread topped with 2 poached eggs (other options of eggs are available), chicken sausages, turkey ham (optional choice is the beef bacon), which were served with mixed beans, grilled mushroom, sweet potatoes, red bean, grilled tomatoes, and hash brown.

As much as Big breakfast depend mainly on the taste of its ingredients, the overall delivery of this plate of dish was a tad dry, and lacked of seasoning to alleviate the taste of each. In addition, the mixed beans tasted rather odd.

Only bonus was, for the price paid, this was a portion adequate to fit 2. Some may comment that this is expensive, but try buying each item and cook yourself at home, the cost would have easily doubled, or more.

The Big Breakfast Bash. Price-RM30

How beautiful is the runny yolk
I truly enjoyed my pancake. Based on the many diners that ordered their pancake, these goody must have been one of their specialty.

My version was topped with lots of bonito flakes, the slight saltiness, and the fragrant of these flakes made my meal truly appetizing. I loved the 3 grilled prawns and salmon roes that were served with the pancake. Pancake was light and fluffy, and the blend of takoyaki sauce and japanese mayo really gave me a pleasurable meal.

Lucky Takoyaki. Price-RM24

Yes. I shall return again very soon. And I suspect, I will be ordering pancake too.

Food - 7/10; Price - 8/10, Service - 8/10, Ambiance - 9/10
(Service would have been a 10, and it was only one particular long hair girl server that responded in a slight unwilling manner that gave me a slight unpleasant feeling. Apart from that, all other server seemed to have responded in a highly well mannered way).

Wondermilk @ Damansara Uptown, PJ

For anyone that appreciates artsy cafe, one would definitely heard or been to Wondermilk. A cafe that I perceived as one that is very well designed, from a team of people with a definite good taste. In all honesty, if its not for the location that is one of the busiest I've seen, this would have been a much more frequented spot for me.

Art and design is apparent even before you enter Wondermilk

Once one enter, be greeted with vibrant and colorful appearance of the cafe. Almost every corner of this cafe looks extremely attractive. All spots seemed to be good for picture opportunity.

Nice & neat counter

Ready cookies & cupcakes for purchase

Waiting area, for drinks

Simply irresistible looking, cupcakes !

Mock cakes for ordering and ready made rainbow cakes
Wondermilk's key products are their range of cupcakes and cakes. However, food and drinks are sold at the cafe, and not forgetting cookies.

We ordered food for our brunch, and I like their usage of condensed milk can, as the 'waiting number' with instructions of collection. Good choice of item used, to relate it back to the name of the place, by using some form of milk to relate back to 'Wondermilk'.

Our waiting number
I ordered their signature drink, bottled milk with flavours. I opted for the Caramel flavor. Milk really can taste this good. Milky, and creamy whilst balance off well with the caramel. Recommended for milk lovers.

Caramel Milk. Price-RM10
My friend, Cass, ordered their Creme Brulatte as we like the description of how this drink is made. It is freshly brewed Italian coffee, and on top of the coffee is made similar as how creme brulee is made, where they torch sugar on it.

This is my first to try this version of coffee, and it tasted excellent. The torch sugar truly added much flavor to the coffee. A recommended drink for one that loves to taste a combination of creme brulee and coffee.

Creme Brulatte. Price-RM10

I like that they price all their 3 options of salad the same. My order was the Mighty Ranch Salad which comprises of mixed of greens, raisins, grilled chicken breast, turkey bacon, parmesan cheese, tomato and creamy ranch dressing.

I liked how my salad was presented, and how they arranged the 2 sheets of paper. Sauce was provided in a small cup separately, to ensure freshness, and salad doesn't turn soggy.
Overall, the salad taste was good, despite the fact that my friend felt that the greens wasn't fresh enough (no soggy greens was spotted, just that it lacked the crisp freshness of how some greens should have). The turkey bacon added much taste and yumminess to the salad, as it has a real fragrant bacon taste. They were generous with their portion of parmesan cheese, and this plate of salad was very value for money.

Mighty Ranch Salad. Price-RM16.90
The Howdy Folks breakfast set came with so much varieties. It consisted with 1 chicken sausage, toast, egg with your choice of style, turkey ham or beef bacon, potatoes, sauteed mushroom, cherry tomatoes and fruit salad.

Somewhat, as much as the items should taste pretty standard, as they are supposed to be cooked lightly, for us to enjoy the original taste, we were not in too much favor of this plate of breakfast. The sunny side up egg that we requested turned out to be a fried egg which we joked that its too sunny that caused the yolk to cook fully. The sauteed mushroom tasted good, but it was soakin with oil.

Overall, this plate of breakfast may last one till dinner. Trust that it would tasted much better by the chef cutting the usage of oil.

Howdy Folks. Price-RM19.90
We ended our brunch with a carrot cupcake. It was extremely moist, and tasted good with cream cheese frosting.

Carrot Cupcake. Price-RM4.50
This is in fact a place that I would just like to 'park' myself, for any spare time that I have, or catch up with friends. As much as their menu offering is decent enough, their ambiance won me over, anytime.
