Restoran Al Diafah @ Seri Petaling

Aloysius suggested an interesting dinner place for my belated birthday celebration. He has passed by Al Diafah many times, but never had the chance to try. We were all, for a change, keen to try out this Middle Eastern food.

Frankly, I was slightly sceptical, after finding out that this Middle Eastern restaurant is located at Seri Petaling, a Chinese community area. However, I was wrong, as during the course of our dinner, Al Diafah served good crowd of customers.

We were seated by the side, and enjoyed the wind breeze. I liked the open window concept, spaciousness, decoration on all sides of the walls, and the overall ambiance which gave an luxury-like feeling.

Inside Al Diafah

We went with our instinct on what looked good on picture, and clarified what was it during ordering, as the items on menu only carried name, without any description.

The salad that we ordered, though came looking dull in color, actually tasted good. Liked the crispiness of the keropok like item that was served together with the lettuce, tomato, cucumber and purple cabbage.

We also ordered a popular Middle Eastern appetizer, called Hommus, which was chickpeas blended finely and seasoned with olive oil and spices. Tasted really healthy, and goes well with the bread served.

The chicken kebab has a strong taste of spices, which came from the marination that sunk in well to every part of the meat. Tasted good, taken together with the puff bread. Yumms!

The dish I enjoyed most was this Al Diafah rice (beriyani) with the 1/4 size BBQ chicken. Both rice and chicken were equally tasty. The beriyani was not too oily, and each came with a fragrant taste.

Chicken was hidden beneath the rice.

The Shish Kebab sandwich was pita bread, wrapped with minced lamb, potato and tomato. Extremely filling.

The portions ordered were just nice, for 4 of us.

Hello Kitty Sweets @ Taipei

While at Tai Chung, was informed of this special restaurant, themed after Hello Kitty. Being a person that is fond of Hello Kitty, can't wait to visit when I am at Taipei. The restaurant is located near the 'Zhong Xiao Fu Xing' MRT station (within walking distance of about 8mins).

Hello Kitty Sweets. "Sherlyn was here"

Reservation is recommended, and there is this min spend of NT$300 per person required. When we were seated, we were advised we have a time limit of 1.5 hours here. Just like our karaoke here, with time limit... hehe.

Got all excited going through the menu filled with food prepared after Hello Kitty.

We took the set where by paying NT$340 for the cake set, and we only needed to top up NT$50 for a drink, so we opted for the iced mango drink.

This cheese tart, topped with Hello Kitty chocolate, a mini macaroon and fruits set, we absolutely loved this. The cheese tart was so creamy and rich.

The mango iced drink filled with mini sized mango ice-cream, delicious! Notice the ice shaped after Hello Kitty, real cute!

We ordered the coffee strawberry drink. The blend between coffee (which wasn't too story) and strawberry was a taste that was so soothing to our taste. Notice the cute shaped Hello Kitty on top of the drink.

Hello Kitty is loved by especially girls of all ages. How not to have a good feeling in such an ambiance restaurant. Shereen and I had a very wonderful afternoon at Hello Kitty Sweets, and just loved the pink color used within the restaurant.

Its a sell, just by Hello Kitty alone, and to experience such a cutesy cafe, which serve such top quality drinks and desserts, why not make a visit here, if one has the time while at Taipei.

Umami @ Dataran Mentari, PJ

Dataran Mentari ought to be an area with the most steamboat buffet places. Was scheduled to meet a good friend of Shereen's ie. Yee Ling from Taiwan, and they have suggested to come to Umami. The brightly litted signboard surely helps to ensure that you won't miss this house of steamboat, when you are around this area.

Brightly littled signboard - UMAMI

When I reached, the table was already all filled with food. They opted for the herbal and tomyam soup. The mentality of coming to buffet is that I usually won't expect the food quality as when I am to pay by ala-carte. Of course, the soup base was a little diluted, however, within acceptable limits.

As its buffet, they have filled up the herbal soup base with lots and lots of golden mushroom. As 1 of them is the member of Umami, we have the privilege to have a bowl of sharksfin soup, each.

"Yin Yong' base of soups, combining tom yam and herbal soup

I liked Umami, as there wasn't queue here, with such variety of ingredients offered. I would have taken much time to just to count how many of items that were offered on the buffet spread.

Countless variety on the buffet spread

If lucky, customers could also get really big sized crab claws.. We had a lot of food that night, filled our stomach with good stuff - fresh scallops, fresh tiger prawns, crab, mussel, fishballs, meatballs, beancurd, mushrooms, lots of vege......

There is also the bbq corner where customers could request for bbq items such as crabs, chicken wings, sate..... The sate here is delicious..

Partial food that we ate

大 海 Japanese Restaurant @ Tai Chung, Taiwan

Since it was my first day at Tai Chung, we decided to head to nearby area to source for food. Within walking distance of 10-15mins, we reached Sogo, and behind it, a wide variety of restaurants. The Italian and Japanese restaurants seemed to be highly popular there.

I liked the basic deco of the restaurant, and in the middle, a long table for sharing. Feels like being in a classroom.

The menu is in Japanese and Mandarin - seemed like no way for me to do ordering, thus, left it all to Shereen.. ;-P

Shereen, looks like taking exam here..hehe.

We ordered their ramen soup with pork for sharing. It was a really big bowl of noodle, filled with slices of pork, bean sprout, black fungus, spring onion and lots of sesame seeds... I love the texture of the noodle which was in between hard and soft noodle, and was springy...

Our bowl of ramen. TWD200(about RM20.50)

She also ordered the cold beancurd with egg. I loved this. Solid overall texture, and tasted really smooth inside. Yumm!

The version of char siu that we had was special. Chunks of pork, which was spicy and salty, yumm! Loved this too..

Flight Meal @ Malaysia Airlines

The pros of boarding MH flights is that we are served free meals and have extra luggage space. The best part of my latest experience of boarding MH is that I was upgraded to Business Class. Yipee..

During the flight, I was served the brunch set.

The services rendered to me was tip-top...

For drinks, I requested for teh tarik. It was foamy (just as how teh tarik should be) when I was served. It tasted good, and not too sweet. Ahh... taking slow sips of teh tarik, while watching 'The Back Up Plan'...

For starter, I was served fruit juice, yoghurt and fresh fruits... and as part of the bakery selection, took their croissant. I was then offered a mini jar of kaya by the lead steward. The kaya was really good.

For main course, opted for Nasi Lemak, rice cooked in coconut milk with lemongrass served with hard boiled eggs, anchovies, peanuts and sambal prawns. The rice was slightly wet, and anchovies a little too hard. But overall, as a flight meal, this tasted fine, and with nice tasty sambal.

For dessert, had the chocolate apricot cake, with mango sauce. The chocolate apricot cake was indeed moist, topped with thick mango sauce.

The meal I had and me, looking forward to reach my destination

After 4.5 hours, I got to see a view of Taipei, and finally, I board at the Tao Yuan International Airport.

A trip that I have been looking forward to, for quite a while now. ^<>^
