Cake Jalan Tiung @ Menara Naza TTDI, Section 13, Shah Alam

By chance, I became a follower of Cake Jalantiung on Instagram, and I more often than not, realized that I actually salivate when I looked at how tempting the cake that this cafe produces. I was also attracted to how passionate the team behind this cafe have towards what they are doing. 

Recently, I saw the news that they opened their second outlet, also within Shah Alam, and I 

after numerous failed attempt to be here, I finally did, today. Yay! Have a small sense of achievement, somewhat. Haha. 

Located at the corner lot below Menara Naza, I had some difficulty finding the right lift to get to the Ground Floor of this building. Apparently they have the office block lift that links to the cafe, and the one I went to was the Residences section of the building. 

I can't wait to check out the cakes that await us on this Friday afternoon.

Overall, I find that they have limited choices of drink, however, I feel that it is fine, as the focus of their existence is their yummylicious cakes.

I love their use of simple blend of pastel colors, and the panels that matches hanging from the ceiling, and side panel of their counter.

We ordered their Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake, and their Chocolate Tart. Both deserved thumbs up. 

Lovely use of plates

Its highly tempting when I looked at this piece of cake. The chocolate cake, was insanely delectable. It has just the right level of texture which has the right balance of density, and extremely moist. It has a light coating of buttercream, and drizzled with lots of salted caramel on top of the cake. The salted caramel truly matches perfectly with the chocolate cake. The blend of saltiness, caramely taste, ooohh la la.... superb taste...

It has been a long long time that I haven't tasted something this lip-smacking.

Upon feeling satisfied over the cakes, and the chocolate tart which was extremely chocolatey, we ordered their chocolate chips cookies. 

The cookies were heated up slightly, and served with small glass of milk, which we are to dip into with the cookies.  

Love the slightly soft cookies, and yet slightly crunchy but what kills it was the thick chocolate used within the cookies. It has the melted chocolate that tasted extremely tantalizing.

Cake Jalan Tiung also supply their cakes to quite a number of cafes around town, and the type of cake differs from time to time. Do check out their Instagram to find out more info. 

Their space is rather limited, but that definitely doesn't deter their fans from flocking to this cake to fulfill their craving for cakes.

Kissaten @ Setia City Mall, Shah Alam

I still recall years back when I visited Kissaten when they first opened in Jaya One. Having tasted the first char siu pizza (non-halal) from them, this somehow held very special place in my heart, as it was extremely yummy, and having bbq pork within. 

Kissaten now also have a branch in Setia City Mall, Shah Alam. When they first started operation, shoppers to this mall will need to walk out from the mall, to find Kissaten's main entrance. However it was recently that they have make slight renovation, by opening up a side entrance that was visible to shoppers even from within. From my recent visits, I witnessed tremendous growth in crowd, presumably contributed by this, plus the fact that it is offering of set lunch.

I have always liked the interior of Kissaten, contemporary design with lots of solid wood used.

The Lunch Bento menu offering was so affordable that I find it hard to resist. And they are available from 11am-3pm.

I ordered the Salmon Sashimi Lunch Box. The presentation of the food was neat, and compact. It came with 5 slices of salmon, salad, rice, cold potatoes, miso soup, chawanmushi, fruits, and a glass of green tea. Overall this was such a value for money meal. All taste good, and for the chawanmushi, if it was steam to have a smoother texture, it would be ideal.

As for Cass, she ordered for the second time the Ginger Pork Lunch Box. The set came with the very same side dishes, except for the main item which was the Ginger Pork. The meat was tender, and carried enough of the ginger, that balances the taste well.

A thumbs up to the lunch bentos offered by Kissaten. Apart from it being extremely value for money, it also tasted good.

From they first started, I observed that they now have much more offering, which included cheesecake from Purple Monkey, and some very fanciful yet very tasteful looking ice-cream as dessert such as Bear Paw Popsicle, Green Tea Azuki Popsicle, etc. Can't wait to savor this for my next visit.

Restaurant Spring Garden @ Shah Alam

What's with my craving lately? This morning after delivering my cupcakes order, my craving signals 'char siu'. However, I totally forgot which turning to take, and thankfully there is "WAZE" that directed me. 

Alright! I found it..  They have good flow of customers at around 11am.

 

The wan tan noodle truly is 1 of the best I've tried.. chewy texture in every bite, with just the right taste..  

Oh the pork doesn't need more introduction, as it has just the right fat level, and the edges comes with slight chewiness, and absolutely fragrant from its marination. Superb. 

A set of this wan tan mee priced at RM6.70 and this same price applies to its char siu rice.

Gerai.The Food Loft @ Setia Alam, Shah Alam

Hang out with Glenies a while ago, and she suggested this simple local dish restaurant that opened at Setia Alam. When she said, its called 'GERAI'... I thought 'I bet its not the normal hawker stall, just couldn't wait to check it out'.

The restaurant has a very simple deco, and carries 1 important element - was really clean.. As you enter some restaurant, you know you are there for either their ambiance, or you wouldn't mind a really simple one in terms of deco, as long as they serve good food, and clean. So, I suppose that Gerai falls in to the 2nd category.

I was having a slight difficulty when going through the menu, as there were quite a few dishes that caught my eyes. They have all the local dishes that one would like to have, including pan mee, curry noodle, nasi lemak etc.

I felt like a bowl of curry laksa, so opted for that. I liked the color of the curry, not too red, with a light curry color... The bowl of curry has all the complete ingredients with hard boiled egg, fish cake, chicken, taufoo pok, cockles... I like the curry richness, and the overall taste that isn't too spicy.

I tried a little of the dried chilli pan mee. Though chilli pan mee isn't one of my favorite, thought it has just the right flavor.

Anyone that knows me would know that fish cake is one of my absolute favorite. I would have fish cake / fish ball, any time, and wish there is a fish ball buffet.. haha..
There is a slight crisp of the skin covering the fish cake, and though it lacks just a little 'springy-ness', overall it did satisfied my tastebud. .This plate of fish cake is really worth paying for, as the 4 generous size of fish cake cost only RM4.90 (1 slightly bigger size fish cake cost around RM6 at another restaurant that I frequent).

Overall, Gerai is just the kinda place one would choose to visit for goodness of the good old hawker fare, that can be enjoyed more comfortably.

It's nice to know that I can count on 'Gerai' to offer me good quality food at the right pricing, the next I am around Setia Alam area.

Restoran Spring Golden @ Kota Kemuning

A wet Sunday... what a lovely weather to sleep-in...
Has been a while since I heard from my brother on how much he enjoyed the char siu he had at Shah Alam, thus on this lovely Sunday, we and Sam, headed to Spring Golden.

About 10 mins drive from Klang, we reached this part of Shah Alam (which I've never explored previously), and glad to see that there are still char siu for sale.. ^^

A ordinary looking shop, serving not so ordinary char siu..

We have the option to order either wan tan mee or rice, to go with our order, of char siu, roast pork and duck (they sell chicken too)...

I love just by the look of the wan tan mee when I was served... This springy and fine looking wan tan mee lived up 100% of how it looked, as I took each bite. Simply tossed with soya sauce and black sauce, this is good to eat just on its own.

Oh-My-Goodness were the 3 words I uttered when I saw this plate of char siu. The caramelized taste, with slight crispy texture on some edges of these combination of fat and lean meat, were just perfect !
Indeed when I chewed this piece of meat, it has that 'melting' effect in my mouth, and the entire chunk of meat felt so soft..

The roast pork had very crispy skin, and the duck tasted good as well. Since there is a 'star-product', I suppose my taste bud were 'all-over' the char siu..

With a bowl of 4 pcs dumpling, the total bill came up to RM40.80 (including 2 barley drink). Considering the price of meat that isn't anywhere near cheap, I felt that this price was quite a fair one to pay.

The boss was ex-extremely friendly... we somehow were very impressed by how well articulate he is. On normal days, they are close during the evening, except for pick-up order, and for CNY, they are taking order as well (they are only close on 1st day of CNY... looks like we can even add his char siu for our reunion dinner). Their char siu is selling at RM9.50 per 100gm, and he took the time to explain to us how customers will pay differing prices each time, due to variance in char siu grammage.
