Man Sifu Enterprise @ Bandar Baru Seri Petaling

There are surely many popular fish head mee hoon around Klang Valley, and just by listening to the name 'Man Sifu', it somehow carry a little weight. The 'master' sure has got something to prove.

Remus whom stays nearby here, highly high recommended this place. His craving added with his eagerness to bring us here, made my journey here full of anticipation.

Occupying space of 2 shop lot, Man Sifu Ent. is real spacious, with cleanliness maintained well.

Display on each table is this welcome note, with customization made possible for each both bowl of its fish head noodle, whereby customers are able to chose if they would like more or less of the wine, creamer, mee hoon (fyi, no other types of noodles served) and salted vegetable used.

In order to serve customer better..

There are various types of soup broth that are available here - ranging from the original, tom yam soup, herbal soup, bittergourd soup... Interesting.. Its menu also listed neatly the combination of noodles available, where the usual selection, eg. fish paste, fish head, sotong ball or combination of these, cost RM7.50 for original/tom yam soup, or RM8 for herbal/bittergourd soup.

The guys chose the original soup, which comes with creamer, salted vege and chinese wine. This was in fact a real tasty, and creamy bowl of fish head mee hoon. The heavy chinese wine used was also very apparent in the soup. And it also has 2 generous big pieces of fish ('ling' fish), which has a lot of flesh and was extremely fresh.

Fish Head Mee Hoon. Price-RM7.50

I opted for the fish paste and fish head meehoon in herbal soup. Once I sipped the soup, the strong aromatic herbal medicine, kicked in. This is definitely for the herbal soup lovers. Fish paste has this bouncy texture, whilst the extremely fresh fish head gave the firm texture. The wolfberry used in the soup also added sweetness to this bowl of noodle.

Fish paste and fish head meehoon, in herbal soup. Price-RM8

We also ordered side dish - the fried pork belly for sharing. Real crispy on the outside, yet the meat inside maintained its tenderness and juiciness. It also had this aromatic smell which resulted from the spices used for marination.

Fried Pork Belly. Price-RM5.80

Can't wait to bring my family members here to try out this delicious fish head noodle.

Cockles @ Near Jalan Bunga Raya, Malacca

Headed to Malacca last weekend with 2 of my ex-colleagues.. One of the main highlight for me, to have an overnight stay in Malacca was that I will be able to have some light food at the stall by the lane of Jalan Bunga Raya.

Right after our dinner at Coconut House@Jonker, we headed to Jalan Bunga Raya.

This is the lane, to head to the stall.

Looks rather dodgy, but was all excited, as good food was ahead of us

Just further in, there were 2 stalls, 1 on the left, and the other on the right. Having been here twice, it was only during this visit, I found out that these 2 are actually competitors. Initially I just thought they are the same, and just being run by 2 different teams... Aiya...
Now knowing the difference between the 2, I actually prefer the 1 on the right, which is run by the Hokkien family.

Busy all through the night

I am one that does not eat cockles, but somehow when I visit here, my brain automatically makes an exception, and ordered a plate. It was quickly brought to boil, and peel it open, dipped into the special sauce, ah... cockles couldn't taste any better.
Too bad they ran out of clams the other night..

Cockles. Price-RM1.50 per plate

The beancurd skin with meat paste was the guys' favorite, and ordered total 2 plates. It was really crunchy. The next plate we ordered was with fishcake.

Beancurd Skin. Price-RM7 (other sizes priced at RM4, and RM10)

The sotong kangkung also tasted good. It was their special sauce that made everything tasted so good.

Sotong Kangkung. Price-RM7 (other sizes priced at RM4, and RM10)

From its menu list, century egg is called 'telur hitam'... Ordered 1 to try, which I regret for not buying more to bring home..Their century egg tasted really good, without much of the strong odor of sulphur. Century is always taken with pickled ginger, to offset the odor. The pickled ginger tasted slightly sweet. Nice. .

The boss graciously walked in at around 9ish, taking over the sauce scooping role. He was like on auto pilot mode, and does it so smoothly. He mixed all the ingredients, a concoction of sweet sauce, chilli sauce, peanut, asam sauce, and other secret ingredient, which makes-up his famous secret sauce.

The man at work

Took advantage of the fact that the boss was on chatty mood, and these was some of the facts I gathered. He would like to be addressed as Mr Cockle.. Hmmm. Since he said so.. Mr Cockle has been doing this business for 30 years, after he was caught in an accident where he lost his arms. He was a big lorry driver then. After not being able to continue to work as driver, he had to resolve to other occupation in his life...

He quoted "we have to think, and think, on what to do or rather what can be done. Don't be afraid to take the step". Little did he know then that this business he created would be 1 of the famous eatery in Malacca. He went through rounds of experimenting, before he finally came out with THE right sauce. He must be real proud, and I gather that things happen for a reason, and closing of one door, is opening of the other.

Mr Cockle and I. Notice the photo hung at the stall - the famous Jason has also done his coverage here before

Also to note, Madam King, the local supermarket here has really special deal from time to time. If you are here, do detour to Madam King before or after you head to the stall.

Shimino @ Ikano Power Centre, PJ

We, the locals, now are able to get a taste of Harajaku (Harajuku is located between Shinjuku and Shibuya, a fashion capital of the world renowned for unique street fashion). For this post, I am definitely not talking about fashion, but food. Thanks to Shimino that brought in the original crepe, which originated from Harajuku.

Shimino first started operation in Feb 2010, where it is a kiosk located at Ikano Power Centre, in between Uncle Lim and the post office. Since then, its concept has been restored, from an 'oranje' looking kiosk to now, a more vibrant kiosk, filled with pink color, brand name ie. Shimino that stood out with use of bling bling lighting and the revive is made possible by the new refreshing concept that is just so 'kawaii'. It somehow made me imagine on how it will be like on the street of Harajaku.
Btw, my imagination was 'assisted' by the video that was playing on the tv screen placed here. The video was showing long queue of customers at the kiosk, and the customers enjoying the crepe. The crepes are indeed very popular amongst the Japanese.

Totally in love with the concept

Overall, Shimino kiosk - eye catchy..Especially love the huge heart shaped fabric material placed at the side of the kiosk which spells out "Harajuku Japanese Crepes".

Shimino kiosk

After few minutes of admiring the kiosk, its time to do the ordering. So many different types of crepes that caught my attention. Some fillings available include kiwi, mandarin orange, red bean, few flavours of ice-cream... .
Thrown the question to Jo, my ex-employer, whom is now 1 of the business owner of Shimino, on what are the more popular crepes. Was told its mango with honey, and the chocolate cake and banana crepe. I opted for the latter.

Varieties that range from A to Q, with price that ranges from RM6.90 to RM9.90 per crepe

The mixed batter was spread thinly and evenly on the hot pan (was told that the hot pan was flown in from Japan), and upon the crepe being ready, the staff use the knife to hold/hang the crepe, and upon which, she swing the crepe a bit, in order to reduce the heat. This is so that to welcome the whipped cream to be added. ^-^ All crepe comes with whipped cream. The other filling for my order was cuts of chocolate cake, banana, nuts and chocolate sauce.

The staff preparing my crepe

Frankly, I was swallowing my saliva, as I can't wait to savour this cone looking crepe of mine. It is easy for me to fall in love, when it comes to food.. LOL, and I was definitely feeling 'that' kinda love when I took the first bite.
It was really soft, yet solid enough to hold all the filling together. And the 'secret recipe', apart from the batter, ought to be the whipped cream. It tasted milky, with a real smooth texture, which enhances the overall taste of this chocolate cake and banana crepes.

If one would like to have a light meal, this 1 crepe would have been the answer, or those who still have stomach space for dessert after a meal, this crepe proves to be not that filling afterall. It works, either way!!

Chocolate Cake and Banana Crepe. Price-RM7.90

Me & Jo, at Shimino's kiosk. The crepes held high - cheers!! Hehe... Congratulation to the business owners!

On my next visit here, ordered the mango crepe. Tasted really good! The mango tasted so sweet, and its flesh was indeed firm in texture, and something tells me that it was definitely the more expensive mango grade used.

Fresh Mango with Honey. Price-RM8.90

My 2 nieces - also lovin it..They agreed to take 1 bite each.. The joy of sharing... hehe..

Shimino has opened its 2nd kiosk at Pavillion, near to the cinema, in June 2010. Moving forward, we will definitely get to see more of Shimino's kiosks opening.

Lala Chong @ Kayu Ara, Damansara

Been a fan of Lala Chong, located near the old Subang terminal. From the last I was there, there was a notice that it was to be relocated to Kayu Ara.. And good/bad news to Pantai Seafood as it is now faced with close competition just next door.

First timer here will describe the route getting here as kinda 'ulu', as its located at the furthest end, after passing many car workshops and village-like residential area.

There were quite a number of dishes that are my favorite at Lala Chong, and ordered the similar dishes, except for the 'taufoo kang', which I ordered for the 1st time. I first tried this at Tanjung Sepat, and I immediately liked it since then... This dish that combines beancurd, minced chicken, egg, and some crab meat, tasted a little like sharksfin soup, especially when taken together with vinegar. It has the thick and sticky texture, result of starch used. Overall nice, I liked this...

Taufoo Kang

We ordered the stir fried brussel sprout with garlic. Not too oily and fresh vege.

Fried brussel sprout with garlic

The must order at Lala Chong ought to be its yong chow fried rice. One of the tastiest fried rice I've tasted. Below picture shown is portion for 3 person, and wow, this is big. I liked the rice which was separated well, combined with lots of spring onion used, chunks of chicken breast, prawns and egg.

Yong Chow Fried Rice

The lala was steamed using chinese wine, and ginger gave the fresh clams a clear and natural sweetness taste.

Steamed lala

The fried glass noodle is also a must order for Lala Chong. It has a real aromatic flavor that came from the ingredients used, combining the dried prawns, mushroom, chicken, beansprout and egg. Also the glass noodle was fried so well, that it tasted so perfect - not too dry, nor too wet.

Fried Glass Noodle

The salted bake tilapia may disguise on how good it tasted by how it turned out looking. The fish skin was wrapped with salt to bake, and upon which, it hardens, and is to be peeled off, before one endeavour in its fresh flesh. Its freshness gave it the 'solid' texture. Not forgeting to mention is its appetizing concoction of sauce.

Salted Baked Fish

It was nice catching up with my 2 dear ex-colleagues, Suan and Candice, together with Steven, the super-hardworking staff I know from The Sxxx.

Restoran Fei Fei Crab @ Kepong

Was introduced to Go Enjoy magazine , a restaurant directory, and with it being a fairly new publication, it is produced with quality, and superb food shot. After hearing from Yap, who has been to 1 of the restaurant recommended by Go Enjoy, I too, gathered some of my makan kakis to try it out.

We headed to Fei Fei 2 weekends ago. Yap, my brother who has been there, highlighted that 1 of the main attraction here is that Fei Fei sells 1 serving of crab at RM18+ (separately, they also have crabs sold at per kg charge).

Having been warned of the crowd especially during the weekend, we were not surprised when we saw the crowd that was seated inside the restaurant, and outside, which also stretched to the next shoplot. Fei Fei will be recommended for those who can afford the waiting time, for we waited around 45mins for our food to be served. Nevertheless, no complaints from us, as in return, we tasted good, yet affordable food.

Fei Fei was totally packed

We ordered the HK kailan, stir fried with garlic. The kailan was absolutely fresh, and every bite was real crunchy.

Stir fried Hong Kong Kailan. Price-RM10

The other specialty that we ordered was the Italy style fried mantis shrimp, which also came together with potatoes. It has a rather unique sauce, which tasted like a concoction of mayonnaise, lemon and some honey. The mantis shrimp was fried till real crunchy, and yet still can taste the flesh (some fried it till too crunchy that it made the flesh sorta 'disappear')... The sauce that coated the mantis shrimp was truly aromatic. A rather new way of tasting mantis shrimp.

Italy Style Mantis Shrimp. Price -RM15

As crabs only cost RM18 per order, we ordered 3 different types - sweet sour, butter with corn and honey lemon crab.

We were pleasantly surprised when we were served the crabs, as the portion is considered big, for the price we paid. So 'dai!!!!!' @ value for money.

There were 3 medium-sized fresh crabs in each serving.

Of the 3, sweet and sour was the least favored. Though it carried the sweet and sour taste, the gravy was a little watery, and wasn't a particular taste that made me want more.

Sweet & Sour Crab. Price-RM18

However, we were glad that the other 2 order tasted real good. The sweet corn, butter crab - nice. The buttery sauce was with the right thickness and creamy buttery taste. The curry leaves added fragrance to this dish and I also liked the sweetness that came from the corn used.

Butter Crab with Corn. Price-RM21

The honey lemon crab scored full marks!! Just love this plate of bbq crabs. Once I licked on the shell, the aroma bbq smell and the sweetness from the honey that sticks on to the shell, really had my taste bud dancing with excitement. In addition, there was also accompanying sauce - special concoction of use, using lemon and garlic. Thick crab flesh dipped onto the sauce- yummmy!!! A truly flavorful taste!!

Honey Lemon Crab. Price-RM21

There were total of 9 crabs, and we managed to the end.

While ordering, I did wished I was there with perhaps a dozen friends, so that I could order more of its other dishes to try, as there were many others that caught my eyes...!!

Alycia and Lung, looking really happy. Who wouldn't after a satisfactory meal?
