Lala Chong @ Kayu Ara, Damansara

I used to frequent Lala Chong when they were operating from Kg. Subang. For that, I suggested to to Lena and Cass to have lunch here before Lena heads home the next day. After the lunch here the other day, I somehow think that the food at Lala Chong doesn't taste quite the same anymore.. :(

Their fried rice which used to be my all time favorite doesn't really live up to that, that day... Think it was slightly more wet than usual, and doesn't have as much chicken and prawn like it used to. However, I must say there's quite a lot of fried rice for order of 1 pax...(good enough to be shared by 3 of us)..

Fried Rice for one. Price-RM6

Lena wanted the Malaysian fried chicken wings before she heads back to US :) She got it.. And this fried chicken wings tasted good.. Thin crispy skin.. Yumms...

Fried Chicken Wings. Price-RM13

I seldom find this in most Chinese restaurants, thus decided to order their paku-pakis vege. In the menu, this is to be fried with tuna, but I really didn't liked it the one time I tried this. However their version with sambal is a lot better. Though it looks a little like water spinach, it has a unique taste on its own.

Paku Pakis. Price-RM11

I have all the while love their 'shuet san fei wu' fish. Sounded like title of TVB drama from the past.. hehe.. Its salted grilled fish. Peel of the skin, and savor in the freshest fish flesh.

Slightly blurry pix of us- Cass, me and Lena, but no complaint la...

Purple Cane @ Shaw Parade, KL

Our plan to have a quick dinner before movie was diverted to Purple Cane, as it has this attraction that seemed to be calling us to come inside. Hehe..

The ambiance sets a very relaxing mood, and I just like the very 'Chinese' feel... :)

Inside Purple Cane

Instead of ordering drink, I prefer to order their soup. Have always liked their soup that comes in form of tea set. Their special for the day was apple and pear soup. Like them both, as these are clear soup, that brings out the natural sweetness of the apple and pear, boiled together with chicken.

Apple Soup and Pear Soup. Price-RM5 each

We wanted to order in the shortest time, so just pick 2 dishes from their menu of popular dishes. Pointed at the picture, and hola, we were done.

I love this plate of stir fried mix vege, which came with lotus root, capsicum, button mushroom, black mushroom, broccoli, baby corn and fried yau char kuai. The taste from the sauce was just nice, slightly plain, which means not too salty..

Mixed Vege. Price-RM12

The batter of the salad prawn was crunchy, with slightly hard texture, making it a little chewy. This prawns goes well with mayonnaise.

Salad Prawn. Price-RM16

And after the dinner that did not took too long, we headed to watch 'All Well Ends Well 2011'.. Nice end to my evening.

Soon Soon Lye @ Bandar Puteri, Puchong

Heard of this fish head noodle place that my sis and family frequented, and since I was at this area with Bud and her kids, I tried to locate Soon Soon Lye... After getting instruction on how to get there by my BIL, we managed to find it after a few turns.

What a hot Monday afternoon.. but glad that the restaurant wasn't too packed.

Ryan, looking oh so serious... ;-P

Once seated and presented with the menu, I took a while to go through, as they offer a long list of varieties, with different combination.

Everything looks so yummy

They have different type of fish, and during weekends, they even offer fresh slice salmon to go with the noodles.

Bud went for the salmon fish head with fish paste.

I opted for the sotong ball with fish paste. I like the freshness of the sotong ball which comes with small cuts of sotong within. The fish paste was no less in terms of the freshness.

Bud and I both love our bowl of 'lai fun' noodle, with milk, salted vege, yam, fried shallot and spring onion. Yes, the soup tasted really sweet, and we finished up with full satisfaction.

If you don't mind to order something which is a little more expensive, I heard the lady boss sharing that their 'Fried Cod Fish and Belly' is one of the more popular item ordered by her customers.

Pinang Lanta Seafood @ Kepong, KL

I had 1 of the most wonderful time last Friday.. Spending the evening with my best friends from my school days ie. Lena and Cass (and of course with the company of Kelvin), we ended up having an evening overdosed with laughter.

Happy Rabbit Year, from me and my buddies

Engrossed in our photo taking (we snapped hundreds of photos of each other.. oh wow!!), we didn't realized how fast time flies. Needing to fill up our stomach quickly, I suggested Pinang Lanta, which is near to Cass's home.. also, I wanted them to try the steamboat here.

Unfortunately, when we got here, were told steamboat will only be served starting 14 Feb, and thus, opted to order dishes..

Lots of chinese wine was used to steam the lala, however, not sure if lack of supply during CNY, the lala wasn't that fresh.

Steam lala. Price-RM11

Lena, having stayed in US for a while, wanted to eat the loh mee. Frankly, tasted ordinary. Not bad, nor too good.

Loh Mee. Price-RM11

The butter chicken was filled with lots of creamy buttery sauce, and the chicken was fried till real crispy. Not bad.

Butter Chicken. Price-RM16

The highlight of the dinner has to be this plate of fried frog (frankly, I don't think I will be able to eat this, if I see the frog while they are still alive)... The flesh was really tender which tasted like a blend between fish and chicken meat, fried till real crispy with ginger, topped with lots of parsley, we all loved this.

After dinner, we adjourned to night photography. Which means snapping more photo of each other. Just love these moments.

View of Petronas Twin Towers. Magnificent.

Between having to order dishes and steamboat at Pinang Lanta, I prefer their steamboat hands down.

Typica @ Jalan Changkat Thambi Dollah, KL

I had a wonderful CNY. 1 of the reasons being the fact that a few of my closest friends who work overseas, returned to Malaysia for the celebration. Even happier, when they are able to find time to spend some time with me.

One of them being Keng, who managed to meet up with me before she leaves for Shanghai. She is a dear friend, who has been truly supportive towards me. And she, being ever so flexible when come to making plans, left it to me for suggestion. I thought it will be nice to have a cup of coffee at Typica.

She liked the cosy feeling that Typica offers (though I'm sure there are many of similar cafes in Shanghai).

Inside Typica

Going through the menu, their set of Dessert Coffee interest me this round. I had my eyes on the 'Ice Drip Gula Melaka Coffee', so I opted for this, this round.

My coffee was first served with a glass filled with a flower shaped ice-cube made using gula melaka.
I love looking at how my glass of coffee was filled up, in front of me.
I was advised to drink slowly, so that as the ice melts, I will be able to taste the gula melaka better.
Overall, I just love the mild gula melaka taste that blended in so well, as I take sips of this glass of strong coffee.

Ice Drip Gula Melaka Coffee. Price-RM18

Keng went for the Coffee with Pandan flavor fresh milk. She thought this is a rather unique combination and absolutely loved this too.

Coffee with Pandan Flavour Fresh Milk. Price-RM14 (hot), RM17 (cold)

Nothing beats having a slice of cake to go with a cup of coffee. Ordered the Mango Delight cake. I just like the lightness of this cake. I like how the cake is made up of sponge cake being interspersed with mango mousse, with pumpkin seeds by the side, topped with thin layer of cream and chunks of ripe mango. It has a very light taste of sweetness, thus, this cake not only has the perfect combination, it also reduce the guilt of savoring into a piece of cake which usually is a lot sweeter.

Hokkaido Ichiba @ The Garden Mall, Mid Valley

Sis and I had the chance to go shopping, while the children stayed home. Taking opportunity of the off-peak time, we had our dinner at Hokkaido Ichiba.. Oh, just by the name of it, I so miss Hokkaido.. When will I go back to Hokkaido again? :)

We wanted something simple, so each of us ordered a bowl of noodle.

I love my fine chewy texture of ramen noodle in this bowl of miso soup. Along with it, was a half hard-boiled egg, lots of seaweed, corn and spring onion, and a few big hotate. Yumm. I just love scallops... With all this ingredients, I thought the price was rather fair..

Miso Hotate Ramen. Price-RM16.80

Sis being a spicy food lover ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen. It has similar ingredients as mine, except for this came with chunks of marinated chicken and spicy broth.

Spicy Miso Ramen. Price-RM14.80

We were drooling over its ice-cream menu which has such irresistible flavours of ice-cream, and told ourselves we ought to order these.. However, after the big bowl of noodle each, we changed our mine. Once a while, we are able to control to not over-stuff ourselves. :)

My cooking : Turmeric Prawns

This is the 1 dish that I've cooked on a once a year basis, and each time happen to be during CNY...
I've cooked this once again on the eve of CNY.
(total 3 times to-date)
Perhaps this is a simple trick of mine - to not cook this too many times during the year, so that each time, my family member would have forgotten the taste from the year before, and will fall in love with dish all over again.

Turmeric Prawn

You will be pleasantly surprised with how good this taste, just through this rather simple recipe :
(this recipe was from Malaysian Women Weekly)

30g butter
1 tbsp oil
2 tbsp chilli sauce
3 cloves garlic, crushed
2 pinches turmeric powder
2 1/2 tbsps lemon juice
300ml thickened cream
500g prawns
salt to taste

1. Heat butter and oil in wok over medium fire till frothy. Add chilli sauce, garlic and turmeric. Stir for 1 min.
2. Add lemon juice. Simmer over low fire, stirring for another min. Stir in cream. Bring to boil, then reduce fire and simmer for 4 to 5 mins or until sauce thickens.
3. Add prawns. Cook, stirring occasionally for 3 to 4 mins or until prawn changes colour. Season to taste with salt.

Happy trying..
