Restoran Angcle Peoh @ Bukit Tinggi 2, Klang

As a Klangnite myself, I was happy at time we saw renovation taking place by Angcle Peoh, during end Mar 2014. First thing mainly because we don't really have many choices when comes to meeting our craving for Asam Laksa, and especially in air conditioned environment. Second, its because the origin of this shop is from the ever famous Asam Laksa in Ayer Itam, Penang.

Almost entering one year of business, I have frequented many times to Angcle Peoh, and I see the business has been consistently good.

Its like a little tongue twisting test put to us when wanting to pronounce 'Angcle', which pronounced as 'Uncle'. 'Ang' is the surname of the owner, and 'Cle' is a short form to Uncle, thus the combination.

Angcle Peoh has sufficient varieties offered, if you decide to not have their famous Asam Laksa.

As a starter, their rojak is a must order, mainly due to its yummy rojak sauce with just the right thickness, and generous amount of peanut.

Rojak. Price-RM6
My kawan was really hungry, and decided to opt for extra noodle for the Asam Laksa. We thought it was really worth it, as by paying RM8.90, we have this yummylicious bowl of Asam Laksa.

Asam Laksa. Normal Price-RM6.90 (we added noodle, for an extra RM2)
We had to be very careful when mixing the bowl of Asam Laksa, so that it doesn't spill out. It has generous amount of vege, cucumber, onion, prawn paste. The broth of this Asam Laksa was just nice, with the right amount of sourness to raise our appetite. Not sure why, but Asam Laksa has never failed to make me salivate. However, I wish there were more amount of fish included in our bowl of Asam Laksa.

Asam Laksa
My very cheery friend, Connie, about to savor the bowl of Asam Laksa

The fried kuey teow tasted really yummy. Enough 'wok hei', used to describe Chinese style of cooking that uses high flame over a seasoned wok, while the food is being stirred and tossed..  This plate of fried kuey teow consist of cockles, bean sprouts, prawns, which unfortunately, during this visit, was a tad soft, which doesn't taste quite fresh. However, it isn't too bad.
The duck egg, which is available at RM2 extra from the normal chicken egg, and the pork lard used, does add more fragrant to the overall taste of the noodle.

Fried Kuey Teow with Duck Egg. Price-RM8.90
The slight disappointment to our lunch was the order of Prawn Mee. Not sure if their version is meant to be this oily, but the over excessive oil that was visible on top of this bowl of Prawn Mee does turned me off a little. The soup broth was too salty, and doesn't have much taste and smell of prawn that is expected of a bowl of Prawn Mee.

Prawn Mee. Price-RM6.90
On the wall, is the history of how Angcle Peoh business origins. It started by Uncle Peoh's mother way back in 1953. Interesting.

O Banh Mi @ 1 Utama, New Wing

Inviting atmosphere

The process of making the baguette can be seen here

I passed by O Banh Mi during lunch time on a weekday the week prior, and saw that it was packed with customers. So attempted a visit during Sunday last week, when I saw a less busy crowd.

Their core product is as per name of the brand name where Banh Mi in Vietnamese means all kinds of bread.

The baguette is an absolute winner. Just as how Vietnamese makes baguette, the outer later carries a light crisp texture, while the inside was airy. This Vietnamese styled sandwich is a product of French colonialism in Indochina, combines ingredients from the French that is the baguette, and with native Vietnamese ingredients such as cilantro, pickled carrots and daikon (winter radish). We ordered the teriyaki chicken which also came with sunny side up egg. A total satisfaction to a wholesome meal.

O Teriaky. Price-RM11

I took the Dry Grilled Chicken Vietnamese Noodle. I must say that the portion is really big for the price I paid. Definitely enough for 2 share... The bowl of noodle is filled with teriyaki chicken, cucumber, spring roll, lots of mint and basil, bean sprout, lettuce, garnish with peanuts and fried onions, and their home made fish sauce. I love the texture of the vietnamese noodle, that tasted absolutely fresh. It has the right thickness of noodle that I absolutely enjoy.

Dry Grilled Chicken Noodle. Price-RM11
Details on what goes into their sandwich
This standee works, as many stopped to have a look
Also the must order is their refreshing lemon tea, that's priced at only RM5 each.

Total bill came up to RM33.90 for 2 person. Fulfilling and very much worth the price paid, in return for such satisfactory quality of food.

Garage 51 @ Bandar Sunway

Having read through a few articles online and blog about Garage 51, it all did managed to raise my curiosity of this place. What attracted me most, wow, a cafe with a garage 'feel' concept. Its such a change from the F&B scene in the past that its opened at the more commercial areas, however, we will now find F&B outlets opened at some of the most unexpected locations.

I really liked the interior of Garage 51, and its very high ceiling.

You won't missed Garage 51 as you pass it

Check out the chair design
Packed lunch crowd
Garage 51 offers very limited menu, with only few selection available for lunch, and separately few others for dinner. Point to note is that their kitchen is closed between 4-6pm. I suppose with the amount of crowd, the selection currently meets the demand by the majority.

Looking at the menu, the Awesome Garage Breakfast attracts my eye. It says diced mushroom, homemade hash potatoes, smoked salmon with free range poached eggs. Well, somehow I wasn't expecting all this items being stacked on top of one another. And I find that the portion is a little too small, and this dish seems to count on the natural taste from its origin, and to conclude, it doesn't taste as good as it looked...
Awesome Garage Breakfast. Price-RM19
The bagel that Joanne is way too hard to be chewed. We know that bagel has a harder texture, however, we really don't find this pleasing to the palatte. She in fact only took the salmon and avacodo, and just couldn't finish off the whole thing.. and well, I don't blame her...

Smoked salmon on bagel with salsa. Price-RM18

Coffee wise, I find that it lacks the richness of coffee, and it surely does feels diluted.

Latte. Price-RM8.90
I do hope that it is only my very personal experience that will not garner this place a second visit. Thank god that taste is a very personal thing which I'm certain others may have a total opposite opinion from me.

Garrett Popcorn @ 1 Utama, Bandar Utama

I can't remember when was the last I had the feeling of 'love at first bite'..
Had saw a long queue queing for Garrett's popcorn at KLCC some time back, but this time when I saw the same at 1-Utama, I just had to try it.

But somehow I couldn't figure out the pricing much, but hey, how much would a pack of popcorn cost.
And when it was my turn, my eyes was set on Caramel flavor, and requested for the Caramel Popcorn mixed with Macadamia.
Took the medium pack, and at cashier counter, I paid RM36 (without nuts is RM21).

Ouch, if given time to think about it, ain't sure if I would paid this much for popcorn. But after I took 1 bite of the popcorn, I felt, wow! It's really worth the money spent.

Each of the popcorn is quoted well with the caramel, and there are just loads of macadamia inside. Since buying raw macadamia isn't cheap, so the price came to very well worth it.
Crunchiness to the max, and super fresh!

I'm now at a phase that I cut down on 'fattening' food, but when the time comes, I surely want to indulge in Garrett's popcorn again.

Gerai. The Food Loft @ Setia Alam, Shah Alam

Hang out with Glenies a while ago, and she suggested this simple local dish restaurant that opened at Setia Alam. When she said, its called 'GERAI'... I thought 'I bet its not the normal hawker stall, just couldn't wait to check it out'.

The restaurant has a very simple deco, and carries 1 important element - was really clean.. As you enter some restaurant, you know you are there for either their ambiance, or you wouldn't mind a really simple one in terms of deco, as long as they serve good food, and clean. So, I suppose that Gerai falls in to the 2nd category.

Inside of Gerai

I was having a slight difficulty when going through the menu, as there were quite a few dishes that caught my eyes. They have all the local dishes that one would like to have, including pan mee, curry noodle, nasi lemak etc.

I felt like a bowl of curry laksa, so opted for that. I liked the color of the curry, not too red, with a light curry color... The bowl of curry has all the complete ingredients with hard boiled egg, fish cake, chicken, taufoo pok, cockles... I like the curry richness, and the overall taste that isn't too spicy.

Gerai Laksa. Price-RM6.50

I tried a little of the dried chilli pan mee. Though chilli pan mee isn't one of my favorite, thought it has just the right flavor.

Dried Chilli Pan Mee. Price-RM6.50

Anyone that knows me would know that fish cake is one of my absolute favorite. I would have fish cake / fish ball, any time, and wish there is a fish ball buffet.. haha..
There is a slight crisp of the skin covering the fish cake, and though it lacks just a little 'springy-ness', overall it did satisfied my tastebud. .This plate of fish cake is really worth paying for, as the 4 generous size of fish cake cost only RM4.90 (1 slightly bigger size fish cake cost around RM6 at another restaurant that I frequent).

Fish Cake. Price-RM4.90

Overall, Gerai is just the kinda place one would choose to visit for goodness of the good old hawker fare, that can be enjoyed more comfortably.

It's nice to know that I can count on 'Gerai' to offer me good quality food at the right pricing, the next I am around Setia Alam area.

Oriental Cravings @ One Utama, PJ

This was one of the restaurant that I frequented, when I was working at Tropicana, about 6 years ago. Wanting to touch base as to, if the food here still taste as good, suggested to Eug to have dinner here. He gladly complied, even though he was here during lunch time. Wah! So nice of him. Maybe that's the beauty of meeting up old friends once a while.. Hehe!

Oriental Cravings. Never fail to have good crowd.

I wanted to try their cendol. And surprisingly, my first scoop of this shaved ice into my mouth, I immediately voiced out 'soooo nice, wor!'.. It has the really thick gula melaka, sufficient coconut milk, soft cendol, and I liked the ice that has this slightly 'harder' texture. Overall, PASS!

Cendol. Price-RM4.90

We also really liked this lotus root with petai, with chunks of garlic, stir fried to perfection. The lotus root retained its crunchiness, and the minced pork that went with it, added extra aroma to this dish. Yummy! I will order this again the next I'm here.

Lotus Root Petai. Price-RM16.90

The golden beancurd was as perfect as I last had it years ago. The ultra soft texture beancurd, wrapped around by this thin layer of crispy beancurd skin, topped with the extremely topping, made-up of dried prawn, minced meat, and radish. It was seriously, aromatic, to the max!

Golden Beancurd. Price-RM11.90

As for meat, we opted for chicken with rice wine, the soupy version. This claypot of tender chicken, came with fried egg, black fungus, and cooked with light rice wine, was just the right order we made. Hot and soupy, it went just so well with the overall dish and rice we were having. Well, guess I just love rice wine.

Rice Wine Chicken. Price-RM26.90

Eug & I . Lucky Eug still can smile, despite having to solve his many issues (which comes as a package of being in advertising industry) over the phone.

I can't wait to be back again, to Oriental Cravings. I also remember that their oatmeal prawn was absolutely delicious too.. Will have this the next time I'm here.

TJ Haus @ Subang Jaya

This meet up was in celebration to Aloysius and Janice's birthday. How quickly each year passes by. This place has long been mentioned by Aloysius and Sam, and we finally get to try it.

I walked up the stairs with much anticipation, and enjoyed my every steps, admiring the deco hung at the wall.

The wall and stairs leading up to TJ Haus

As I stepped in TJ Haus, I see a restaurant filled with neat decoration, that combines English style and garden-like.

Inside TJ Haus

While waiting for us to arrive, Aloy ordered this, to first fill up his stomach. The chicken was coated with breadcrumbs, fried till crispy, while retaining moisture within, topped with mushroom sauce.
I liked how the sauce complimented the chicken. This plate also came with potato wedges, and salad on the sides.

Chicken Chop in Rich Mushroom Sauce. Price-RM19

Upon my arrival, we ordered the rest of the food for the night.

Pumpkin is not my all time favorite, however, I liked the thickness of this pumpkin soup, garnished with whipped cream and pumpkin seeds. Tasted so rich.

Pumpkin Soup. Price-RM7.50

For the appetizer, we went with the rosti - Swiss dish containing mainly potato. The portion of this appetizer was quite big, however, the grated fried potatoes was rather little, but that was fine, as we had really lots of Swedish marinated salmon, topped with sour cream. This also came with lots of greens. Yumms. From the little share of rosti that I tried, I really liked this. The potato smell was just aromatic, and the onion just complimented it, and this was fried with slight crispiness by the sides. I likeeeee!

Graved Lachs with Rosti. Price-RM19

The crispy duck was highly recommended by Sam and Aloy whom has been here. Duck in a Western restaurant? Interesting.. So we did ordered.. This German Style crispy duck was made by grilling to perfection, topped with brown orange sauce, served with red cabbage and boiled potato. The sour-y tasting red cabbage taken together with the crispy duck, brought just the right taste to the senses.

Crispy Duck. Price-RM24.50

The grilled fish was really fresh, served with thick sauce, topped with tomato, and grilled potato, lots of broccoli and salad by the side. Those that love olives will especially love this, as the sauce had lots of olives too.

Grilled Fish. Price-RM28

As for dessert, we ordered their famous chilled cheesecake, a piece each meant for the birthday boy and girl. A refreshing cheesecake with peach topping. Everyone just loved this, as the texture was really dense, and just so creamy and rich.

Cheesecake. Price-RM12

The other dessert that we ordered was the fried banana. I liked this. With it being fried, its crispy on the outside, coating the sweet and soft banana. Taken with vanilla ice-cream, this dessert is really not bad.

The yummy cheesecake waiting to be eaten.

Rojak Atria @ Petaling Jaya

During lunch last Sat at Bon Bon, Ivy told me that she often has craving for this rojak, operating by the little street, next to Atria. Oh, so I must try this, after lunch..

This Rojak Atria operates from just bike, which customers can opt to eat at the food court area. You can find Mr Rojak on the little street facing 'Language School'. Since it was Sat, there wasn't that many people then.

For the regular take-away, the boss will have the ready packed rojak by the side, ready to go.

Rojak, ie. fruit salad drowned in prawn-based dressing with chili sauce are found at many places, but to find really good ones, it isn't that easy.

Mr Rojak

The rojak man said "don't go away la, show that got leng lui buying ma' ha.ha.

This plate of rojak has all that I like - they are all so fresh, as the rojak man slice in the fruits using his knife only at time of packing - young papaya, mango, pineapple, cucumber, turnip. With order of the big portion at Rm4.80, the amount of fruits is really a lot.. and came with 2 pcs of crackers.. I didn't know earlier, and asked for additional 1 pc which cost only RM0.30.. Light and crispy, yumms, and the price, worth it.. (Pack of small rojak - RM3.80)

Overall, the sauce is not too heavy and just the right thickness to coat all the fruits.. I will definitely drop by to take-away a pack of rojak if I'm around the neighborhood.

My plate of appetizing rojak (before and after quoted with sauce)

Restoran Yin Her @ Sungai Buloh

With my aunty and uncle from Perth for a short trip, it gave more reason for me to meet up with my other relatives. Each time when meet up, the most popular question heard, will be 'where shall we eat this for lunch/dinner?'... Last Tue, Aunty from PJ suggested to have dinner at Sungai Buloh. This is 1 area that I am least familiar with.
When we reached the restaurant, we headed to the non air-cond area, facing the pond . Though without air-cond, it was a chilly night, as it was just after rain, and with slight wind breeze, what a nice weather...
After taking a look around, one thing prominent was the lush greenery - lots of plant...

Surrounding of the restaurant

Just next to the restaurant, there is a lake for fishing, with charge of RM20 per 3 hours.

There were a few man, patiently waiting for their rod to get hooked..

Our plates of food were served relatively fast, and I was told that this restaurant is really packed on weekends. No luck for crab the other night, as they have not been getting their regular stock.

As we looked at the plates of food placed on the table, we knew we are to savor good tasting food - Bon Appetite..

This was the braised yee mee and hokkien mee hoon noodle we had. The hokkien mee hoon was a little too wet. However, it doesn't lack the taste a good plate of noodle should have. The yee mee, just the right taste I'd like in a plate of noodle. Braised till just soft enough, and not soggy. Overall, these 2 plates has generous amount of ingredients - like vege, squid and pork.

Braised Yee Mee. Price-RM12

Hokkien Mee. Price-RM10

The winner has to be this plate of fried tanghoon. This was cooked to close perfection, not too dry, tasty overall, with lots of beansprout, prawn, cuttlefish, pork and not forgetting the dried prawn that was found in every other mouth of tanghoon I had.

Fried Tanghoon. Price-RM10

The salted mantis shrimp has this really wonderful aroma - the crunchy bites of this will set you wanting for more. Uncle said, this is best taken with beer. Makes a wonderful snack food too.

Mantis Prawn. Price-RM20

The steam lala was one of the favorite for all of us... This thin shelled lala, gave a nice chewy texture, and the soup which has a strong taste of chinese wine, and was cooked using wolfberries, ginger, and just enough chilli padi - its important that chilli padi doesn't overkill the whole taste. Nice!!

Lala. Price-RM25

We were then served complimentary dessert, a bowl each - the barley fu chok, with sago. Lovely way to end our dessert. Was told by cousin, that if we were to order rice and dishes, the owner will serve complimentary soup. I supposed every customer welcomes free stuff, yea?

Complimentary bowl of dessert

I had a wonderful dinner, catching up with my aunties and uncles. The dinner was 'spiced' up by my entertaining 'Aunty Mei Kei'.. :)

A group photo with all my relatives...

Another photo together, this time, just the ladies.. :)
