Brolly @ Menara Felda, Kuala Lumpur

If I were to award a restaurant for the most interesting concept and design, I would award it to non other than Brolly.

The 6 of us took the challenge of getting in to town for our dinner gathering, and upon battling the jam, we all reached safely on the rainy evening.

I was pleased as soon as I turned into Menara Felda also known as Platinum Park, being greeted by 3 artistic mannequins. With the cooling breeze that greeted me, I was in a great mood as I stepped in to Brolly.

The lighted bus that serve as bar area stole the limelight, and what a unique idea this is. I love the transparent glass panels that surround Brolly, and I was smitten by the aromatic popcorn that was popping away. Its always nice that guests are given the popcorn as snack, foc. Lovely gesture.

The outside are of Brolly

The interior was seriously impressive. I seemed to walk through sections of display that seemed to be endless and was unique on its own.

The design revolved around various theme, which seemed like inspiration from travels, and mechanic, as I saw gramaphone records, US license plate, and tools used by mechanic being used as decorative items, which were all plastered neatly on different walls.

Interesting interior

Bar seating area

Pool table, with car hung upside-down

The highlight of the interior ought to be this pillar of wash basins that used tyres as sink, gasoline pumps for tank, and side mirrors hung all over the pillar. Love the lighted Christmas tree that reflected onto the side mirrors.

How much I love the Christmas tree side-by-side with the washing "sink"
The room that we reserved was big, and I love the car ream used as decorative to the room's door.
Nice room for privacy
The menu was somewhat interesting, combining 9 categories of food, that ranged from Chinese, Japanese, Western, with aplenty of offerings such as live seafood, pizza, chicken wings, rice and desserts.

Their drink menu was refreshing to me, and one range of drinks included beer booze mixed with margarita, and other flavorings were also available.

Classic Beergarita. Price-RM28

The appetizer was so charming in presentation, with the fried onion that took centrestage. Those that came slightly later has totally no clue what was this. The onion was beautifully opened up, and fried till crispy. The coating was thin enough and the sweetness of onion was apparent, and dip was yummy to accompany each strip of the onion.

Onion Flower. Price-RM18
The salad was deliciously healthy and the light sauce that accompanied them, a good start to our dinner.

Rocket Mango & Grilled Watermelon and Pineapple Salad. Price-RM22 & RM15

The buffalo wings came with 9 choices of flavors and we picked the Kung Po, and the Japanese Curry version. As much as they were both very tasty, and were strong in flavour, I felt I was crunching too much of the skin, that resulted from the batter.
Each serving came with 3 pieces of big sized chicken wing, cut to 6 pieces.

Buffalo Wings. Kung Po and Japanese Curry version. Price-RM18 each

The one order that I think I would repeatedly order is the Prawn . Reasonable in size, they were fried till extremely crunchy, highly fragrant, and coated well with spices.

Prawn Popcorn. Price-RM23

The pizza choice we made was Seafood Matriciana. It tasted fairly well, with thin crust, and topped with small cuts of seafood and lots of goodness from the cheesy cheese.

Seafood Matriciana Pizza. Price-RM28

The one item that was enjoyed the least was the spring chicken with Chamalla sauce (used mix of herbs). Lovely presentation, with some salad, mashed potatoes, and herb sauce that accompanied it, but the taste of the herbs was overwhelming to me, and somewhat I did not like the herb taste.

Spring Chicken. Price-RM45

We also took the chance to celebrate a lovely friend birthday, and with that, we were presented with unbelievably generous amount of dessert, COMPLIMENTARY! Wow!
There were 6 of us, and 6 jars of dessert were brought to us.
Love the simple presentation that used mason jar, with generous portion of each. What we tasted included Creme Brulee - extremely creamy and milky, Honey Yoghurt - sourish and totally appetizing, Chunky Peanut Butter Granola - healthy and crunchy, and Rocky Road - chewy and yummy.
Everyone has their own favorite, and I must, all tasted equally delectable.

Dessert In Mason Jar. Usual Price-RM16 each
Verdict : It's a great place for booze, finger food, plenty of food varieties. Service was exceptional. Price is fair, however, there are some seafood that is priced on a high side.

Mei by Fat Spoon @ Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur

One of the most recommended F&B outlet by friends to me of late was the Mei by Fat Spoon where I was told they serve very interesting Japanese fusion food. I had in the past saw recipe book by this 2 sisters that runs Mei, where the recipes shared are beyond the ordinary ones, and they cleverly add different ingredients to add twist to the otherwise could have been ordinary dish. With that, great anticipation surrounded me when I headed towards this outlet last week.

I somewhat missed the spot when I passed by for the first time as the sign of their name was mainly on the glass door. Much sunshine goes through its glass window by the front and side of the outlet.  A feeling of freshness gushed through me as I stepped in. Just loved the simplicity of the place where they used mainly whites as part of their interior design.

The outside of Mei by Fat Spoons

Certainly very packed during lunch time

Drink counter and cash register area

Overall, I find that they have good selection of food and drinks. Plus point is that, their prices are reasonably priced, as compared to many other F&B outlets. I liked how they name their juices, from Red, Green, Orange, Yellow and White, describing the colors of fruits used to derive with the juices.

I ordered the Red Juice, which comprised of red dragonfruit, watermelon, apple and goji berries. Tasted naturally good, with dragonfruit taste being more apparent than the rest.

Dina ordered the Yellow Juice, which comprised of passionfruit, honey pineapple, banana and lemon. Slightly sourish, this was just the right drink to open up anyone's appetite.

Red Juice. Price-RM12, Yellow Juice. Price-RM10
As starter, we took the Hokkaido Scallop and the Lychee Tartare. Just imagine yourself eating sashimi scallop, where you get to taste the largely chopped scallop, coupled with canned lychee, placed on top of lightly blend sauce, and accompanied by cuts of spring onions and fresh baby tomatoes. Refreshing offering.

Scallop and Lychee Tartare. Price-RM28
Sashimis are always welcomed by Japanese food lovers, and me being one, couldn't resist to order their bowl of rice that seemed to offer many good stuffs in one order.

I was absolutely happy with presentation of the bowl of rice, mainly because the freshness of the fish and ingredients which seemed to brimmed onto me, and I love the combination of the colors. Natural and bright.

Freshness indeed is the most crucial when it comes to Japanese food, and thus, this order certainly fits the bill. Generous amount and size of salmon were provided, avocado, japanese cucumbers, pickled, ikura (I just love the feeling of my tongue bursting them inside my mouth) and shreds of seaweed. The mixed texture felt by the tastebud was certainly satisfying. It ranged from crunchiness of the items, combined with softness and freshness of the fish, mixed with bits of wasabi to each bite - and all this combined, made a good bowl of rice.

Within the rice, was the light homemade sauce which tasted just nice. Not too salty yet carried enough taste to give you a good balance of being able to taste the natural ingredients from all the good stuff that came with this order.

Salmon, Ikura and Avocado. Price-RM28

Salmon, Ikura and Avocado. Price-RM28. Upon mixed up, still look so good.

What my friend ordered was in fact very similar, with an exception of additional scallop and yellowtail fish. I love how fancy they have named this dish, the Summer Bara Chirashi Bowl. This would be much recommended for hard core fish lovers, as it had the salmon fish, salmon roe, yellowtail, and scallop as well.

Summer Bara Chirashi Bowl. Price-RM38

This place definitely calls for another visit soon, and when I stole a look at their spaghetti,, being ordered by a customer seated next to me, I have already planned in mind to have that the very next time I'll be here.

Nosh-Up @ Atria, Damansara Jaya

I am indeed a little excited to check out the revamped Atria exactly 1 month after it reopened on 28 May 2015. I had an extremely good feeling stepping into the mall, and walking from one end to the other, I am caught with slight surprise that the space that used to be occupied by the previous Atria was indeed this spacious.

As I walked pass Nosh-Up close to noon, I see that it is really packed. A good sign to try out this restaurant. From the amount of crowd, the ambiance of the restaurant, mix of its food offering, and when this came to my thought "Really, Rm10 soup?", I just felt that their price will not be throat cutting. PASS.. ENTER!

Nosh-Up has a very contemporary design, vibrant colors yet not overly done, and warm lighting.

Inviting entrance to Nosh Up
On their side wall, they use simple wording like 'Eat, Enjoy, Satisfy' to express what they are to deliver to their customers, and to the end of the premise, there lies a more colorful wall, that gives a rather 'homey' feeling.

Their selection of food offering combines Asian Fusion which really gives comprehensive varieties whereby one can get to savor western choices of soup, salad, main meals that ranges from western to asian, breakfast set, western main meals, very good choice of desserts and many options of drinks.

The fact that they have good amount of crowd at the same time, waiting time was rather reasonable, and I see that food is being served rather promptly.

I am happy with the choice of Minestrone soup as a starter. It was not the usual plain garlic bread that came together with the soup, but rather, it is 2 slices of bruschetta that is toasted with some cheese. They tasted really yummy, and the soup is even better. The soup is flavorful, with almost half of it filled with what is used to boil the soup. It comprises of celery, potato, zucchini, onion, and carrot. The ingredients are to my interpretation of what I see, as they are all mixed up with some carrying almost the same color.

Italian Minestrone. Price-RM10

My friend ordered their Leek and Mushroom Chicken Pie. We love how the used the wooden flat board to present the food. It came with delicious bowl of creamy mushroom, chicken and leek, baked with cheese on top, the very flaky and light in texture pie, the greens, and a piece of some potato.

Chicken, Mushroom & Leek Pie. Price-RM22

I like some surprises within my food thus I order the Grilled Chicken Duxelle as it has mushroom stuffed in the chicken. My little heart is jumping with joy when I am presented with this compelling plate of very mouthwatering plate of food.

First that went to my mouth is the salsa by the side. It was sourish enough to open up my senses to food. The saute vegetable taste absolutely divine. I am not sure what is added to marinate them, but the tastiness of this is insane! The most satisfying saute vegetable I ever had!

I tasted the sauce before I poured them in, and it carries taste of spiciness. However, it worked out perfectly when mixed with the rest of the food. I also like the healthy baked sliced potatoes and some vegetables.

There are lots of mushroom stuffed within the chicken. Mushroom is flavory, and goes so well with the chicken. Chicken taste is good, but because its chicken breast, I think much stronger marination is required, as the other parts of the food within this plate seems to overtake the taste of the chicken.

Grilled Chicken Duxelle. Price-RM29

The fridge that display their cake should be feeling proud by what it is displaying. The cakes  all look so alluring and the particular 2 that catch my eyes are the macadamia cheesecake, and their tiramisu coated with plenty of caramelized almond. Price wise, RM14-RM15 a slice is consider standard, and in fact, reasonable, given the fact that in return one gets to taste cake that is made with the best of ingredients. My stomach disagrees when I try to convince to take on some dessert. I like that I now know how to put a stop to the volume of intake. Haha. Soon, I will be back!

Cakes that looks heavenly

I am pleasantly surprised when the bill came together with a 15% discount. This is being offered as their opening special which is valid till 30 June 2015.

I can't wait to be back to try out their other offerings, with a bigger crowd, definitely.

Fusion Haven Cafe & Restaurant @ Sri Petaling, KL

I was recently in touch with my ex-colleague, Danny Loke, in which I found out that he has been running this restaurant in Sri Petaling for the last 10 years. Upon checking his FB page, I found very positive comments made on its food, and I'm glad I made my way there.

Appetizing product shots to tempt you
Nice comfy seating
From the outside

Comfy and spacious
I was extremely impressed with the food presentation at Fusion Haven. Honestly, I don't get to feast my eyes with such lovely presentation even at some fine dining outlets.

We tried the mango salad. Despite having used mango quality that isn't the best, perhaps due to seasonality of this fruit, the overall combination deserves a thumbs up.  The salad is served in a crispy basket.

Fusion Mango Salad. Price-RM13.90
Firstly, crack up the 'basket' and mix the salad together. Within this, we find fresh lettuce, apple, mango, raisins and dried fruits..Place them onto the crackers, and eat them together. The combination of crunchiness, and the slightly wet salad, simply right.

Inside look of the mango salad
The Fusion Dory Tower - I must say, I was awed with this "tower"..  At the bottom, is the onigiri rice fried, topped withe pan fried dory, followed by turkey breast ham, and another layer of pan fried dory. The octopus bonito flakes made the whole thing looked classier, and a long twist stick.

The octopus bonito flakes lends a tastier taste to the soft dory fish, with a slight crisp surrounding the fish. Yummy to the max.

Fusion Dory Tower. Price-RM23.90
The pepperocino spaghetti was absolutely tasty, fried using lots of garlic, and olive oil. The owner, Danny, requested a replacement of shisamo fish, to topped the pasta, instead of their regular pan grilled chicken. You may want to check on the availability of this at point of ordering.
Pepperocino Spaghetti with Shisamo. Price-RM18.90
This ought to be their best seller dessert. From the look, one would know that the chocolate cake is really moist.

Warm Hearted Chocolate Cake with Ice-Cream. Price-RM7.90
Cut it apart, and you will find chocolate oozing out from this small sized chocolate cake. I was pretty impressed. Taste wise, oo-la-la... it best described my taste bud.

Chocolate goodness oozing out.
And a must must order, is their ice house coffee, which I forgot to take a picture of.
Taste very good, and only at the price of RM4.80 per glass.

Overall, I had a very good meal at Fusion Haven Cafe, and I'm not saying this just because I know the owner. And a point to note is that, with the standard of food served, the price is way too reasonable. Perhaps one thing to thank is that the high competitive F&B environment in this area. Whatever it is, it will be to the advantage of the customers. Yay!

Being located at a highly busy street (and of course, no business owner would like to run their business at area with ample parking, which would mean that, its probably a dead area), do look out for police station on the right, followed by TM Point. Fusion Haven is just few doors away.

Kafe Indulge @ Off Jalan Kuchai Lama

Went CNY visiting at Alicia & Jesmond's home sweet home yesterday, and as it was near dinner time, Alicia suggested that we have dinner nearby at this cosy little cafe, that serves good mille crepe. I was instantly 'attracted' to the idea, and can't wait to head on there.

Kafe Indulge's very simple set up

Kafe Indulge in fact carries a very simple set up, with very light deco, and simple tables and chairs.

Recommended the Lime and Mint bliss by Jesmond, and just love the refreshing taste of lime 'meets' mint.

Lime and Mint Bliss. Price-RM3.90

Was told that it was just recently that Kafe Indulge also offer local dishes in their menu.

Jesmond had the very healthy aglio olio pasta.

Shereen and I shared the mee mamak. The yellow noodle wasn't too spicy, just right, fried together with prawn and chicken. Overall, taste good, but somehow lacks the 'wok hei'.

Mee Mamak. Price-RM9.80

The other dish we had that had us very satisfied was the Chicken Piccatta. Tender chicken that was juicy inside, with slight crisp, from the flour dough used to fried the chicken. Yummy!! And the mushroom sauce has just the right creaminess.

Chicken Piccatta. Price-RM16.90

After sipping just one spoon of the soup, we were all caught with delight as to how delicious the Nyonya Laksa tasted. The richness of the coconut broth laksa and the thickness of the soup made this a winner dish. It also came with ingredients such as prawns, cockles, fish cake and chicken. Yumms! Can't wait to come back to have this 1 bowl on my own.

Nyonya Laksa. Price-RM11.90

While having our dinner, saw many fresh Mielle Crepes was brought out from the crepes making room. And looking at the amount of these Mille Crepes arranged in the big fridge, it goes to show that Kafe Indulge does sell lots of them. Thus, can't wait to indulge them ourselves.

Alicia told her the Rum & Raisin flavor is 1 of her favorite, however, it wasn't available on that day, so we went for the Original flavor, and the Black Forest flavor.

These Mielle Crepes looked simply irresistible

Love the Original flavor Mille Crepe - not too sweet, and can taste the lightness of the cream used filled in between the thin fine layers of crepes.

Mille Crepe - Original Flavor. Price-RM7.90

The Black Forest Mille Crepe also tasted good, carrying the same texture, with layers of chocolate, and also black cherry filled in parts of the layers.

Black Forest Mille Crepe. Price-RM8.50

We had some interesting topics that night, on discovery of teachings, and general sharing on life. Should have these sessions more often.. :)

Wonderful session between me, Shereen, Jesmond and Alicia.

Can't wait to be back here to try its other offerings.

Alexis @ The Gardens, KL

Alexis, my all time favorite fusion restaurant, with elegant contemporary interior was the place of choice for my buddy's belated birthday celebration. The popularity of Alexis is obvious, as this one at Gardens, being the biggest amongst its 6 outlets, were almost 100% filled, on a Monday night.

With its food quality that meets the mark on every visit, its no surprise that they are this popular.

Caesar salad came with fresh lettuce, bacon and croutons.

The penne carbonara was very tasty. Cooked together with bacon and mushroom, this creamy egg based sauce was just nice, and like the sauce that was 'trapped' in between the penne.

Penne Carbonara. Price-RM34

The kerabu fried rice tasted really good, having all the right element. The rice fried with long beans was soft, the fragrant salted fish, crispy and aromatic fried tumeric chicken, crispy keropok, and really fabulous tasting sambal belacan.. We had to asked for another serving of its belacan, as its quite small portion, and after that, had to order another side order of the keropok, for us to dip along with the belacan. Yumms!

Kerabu Fried Rice. Price-RM25

The gamberetto is 1 of my favorite.. thus, request to order this.. This thin crispy pizza, with tomato based is topped with garlic prawns, oven dried tomato, and lots of rocket. Rocket is a weird tasting green, with slight bitterness, but after getting used to this taste, I kinda liked it.. I liked the succulent juicy prawn too..

Gamberetto Pizza. Price-RM34

The tapas being baked button mushrooms came last. The highlight for this ought to be the mushroomy sauce with lots of garlic, that goes so well with the baguette. As the whole bowl are being baked together with the mushroom, the mushrooms were kept to its hottest, throughout.

Baked Button Mushroom. Price-RM16

We ordered the birthday girl's favorite, the Mixed Berries meringue, a dessert made out of whipped egg white and sugar. I love the delicate crisp crust of the meringue, balanced with extremely airy texture inside. A bite combining the creamy part of the cake that binds the meringue together with the berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries) wasn't sweet, slight sourness from the mixed berries plus the sweet meringue, this ought to be a blissful moment, for any cake lovers.

Mixed Berries Meringue. Price-RM15

My all time favorite - tiramisu was the other cake that was ordered. What I love most is the caramelized almonds that topped this cake.. This cake was also super yummy, with spongy cake layers, surrounding the layer with cheese and chunks of chocolate. The strawberry sauce adds taste to the entire cake.

This 2 will now be my super favorite cake - side by side...

Tiramisu. Price-RM15

A bottle of good wine to celebrate the occasion

A toast to the birthday girl... "Happiness always"..
