Kafe Old China @ Petaling Street, KL

One weekend, me and my best friend decided to explore China Town. I wanted to reminisce the good old days, and what is better than having my lunch at Old China Kafe which also served as antique gallery that I can get to appreciate while savoring my meal.

Steps leading to the toilet. Look at the old fridge which is still functioning.

As appetizer, we ordered the Pie-Tee which were crispy hat-shaped cones made of rice flour, and we filled this up with bean sprouts, cucumber, sweet turnip (which were slow cooked till soft) and some fried onion. This served as a good snack, and has to go with dash of the chilli sauce. Despite the filling tasted good, I felt the 'Top-Hat' lacked crispiness.

Opted for the Coconut Rice which looked so beautifully as it is cooked with tinge of blue pea flower. We were highly satisfied with the Nyonya Fried Chicken, that carried slight spiciness, cooked with local herbs, roasted coconut grantin and fragrant coconut cream. The sauce was creamy enough and went really well with the rice.

The mixed vegetables cooked with oyster sauce were stir fried till just nice, maintaining the vegetable freshness.

Old furniture had surely maintained its charm, with the place surrounded by tourists to Malaysia, and locals as well.

A charming cafe

Verdict : Satisfying food taste operated within a charming old cafe occupying the heritage row. Ought to at least experience once by locals, and a must for tourists.

Restoran Bai Wei Xuan @ Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam

My family and I visited this Sichuan restaurant located at Kota Kemuning several times, of-late. We like the homey non pretencious set up of this restaurant.

The Chinesey deco, used of red, paper lantern and chinese painting
During our visits, we were all satisfied with quality of all dishes that we ordered. Well, majority.

The sauteed diced chicken with chile pepper is really to die-for. Despite the fact that this tasted extremely spicy and pungent, the fragrant that derived from the spices were simply aromatic. The marination sipped in to each part of the bite sized chicken and the crunchiness of the diced chicken was absolutely pleasing to our palate.

I digged through the dried chile to look for left over bones or mini size of the diced chicken, so that I can keep it in my mouth and let it be chewed slowly.

Some dishes will immediately turn your stomach to aching, as the spiciness may look unbearable. The fresh fish fillets soaked in this hot oily oil was extremely delicious, and has such strong flavor from the spices and pepper used.

We love the fresh fillet of fish that was cooked with the picked vegetables. Fish were sliced thick enough for us to savor the nice chunk of them, and this dish certainly opened up our appetite. The sourness from the picked vegetables were so yummy. There were also some vermicelli within this bowl.

It was our first time to see potatoes served this way. Shredded so thinly, and cooked with vinegar. Love the crunchiness of the potatoes, and tasted simply great.

The Sweet & Sour Pork was another absolute favorite of all. The pork was fried so well, whereby tenderness of the pork could still be felt, while it also came with slight crunchiness. The sauce that accompanied was excellent, a well balanced of sweet towards sour.

The mushroom can be opted for non spicy. We love the generous portion of mushrooms, with extremely good balance of mushroom of all sorts, mixed with some vege. Tasted totally delicious, and what a good value for what we gotten in return.

The steamed egg was soft, and topped with lots of gravy made of good portion of minced pork. Its so tasty, and went so well with rice.

The beancurd was soft, which came with a slight crispy layer. The sauce was yummy which was favorite of the kids.

This was the only one dish that we did not favor. The squids were too chewy that it felt slightly plasticy, and it has a weird peppery taste.

Sizzled Squid Tentacles. Price-RM22
Verdict : So far only 1 dish that we felt did not delivered, while all others did 100%. A place that we will return over and over again.

Red Tomato @ Pantai Cenang, Langkawi

It has been more than a decade that I last been to Langkawi. I truly enjoyed my recent trip here, and I think Langkawi is one of the places that tourists to Malaysia ought to visit.

I fully depended on reviews on Trip Advisor for recommendation of F&B outlets.

Red Tomato is one of the outlets that is top on their list, and best of all, it is located strategically at Pantai Cenang area.

I love their very inviting entrance, and the restaurant was in fact filled with customers.

Busy restaurant
We ordered their salad as starter, and do expect long wait for your food. We waited close to 30 minutes, for our first dish, the salad to be served.

This was filled with lots of greens, tomatoes, avocado, mango, cucumber, cranberries and smoked pepper tuna. There were all so fresh, and the slight salty smoked pepper tuna truly complimented the salad, and with a taste of mango sweetness, this was a yummy salad.

The Carbonara was cooked to perfection. We requested for chicken to replaced its chicken ham that was originally listed in their menu. The sauce was creamy enough and overall was a tasty plate of pasta.

For its pizza, there is a choice of either the margherita or the basil pesto, which came with the basic ingredients, ie. tomato or basil pesto, with mozzarella cheese.
As for additional toppings, each item is priced at either RM2 or RM4, which we opted for salami and fresh mushroom.

We were very pleased with the thin and crispy pizza, and it was certainly delicious.

We left with happy stomach, and yes, this is truly a recommended restaurant.
