Jim Thompson Tea Room @ CHR, Cameron Highlands

Seriously, I couldn't think of any better way to enjoy an afternoon tea set, than having it at the Jim Thompson Tea Room at Cameron Highlands Resort (CHR).

Anyway, I just love everything, literally EVERYTHING about CHR.

The afternoon tea set is priced at RM60++ for 2 pax, and I would say, for the cosy ambiance, it is all worth it.

It was our most leisure afternoon, savouring finger sandwiches, some light-as-air pastries, and home baked scones. The set is also complimented with wide selection of quality tea from BOH.

Doesn't this tea set look so irresistible?

The scone has a very different texture from the usual scone. This has a bread-like texture, and taken with their homemade jam, yumms!

Topping the scone with CHR's homemade strawberry jam

I also particularly liked this cupcake, topped with fresh cream, berries and strawberry.. It was just so filled with butter fragrant...

Love this cupcake within the afternoon tea set

For those who make their trip to Camerons, you will know what relaxing means, when you are seated within the Jim Thompson Tea Room, overlooking the golf course, nice cooling weather, served by super duper friendly staff, and 'complimented' by a nice companion, the whole experience just ought to be something extraordinary.

Restoran Bubur Goreng @ Taman Berkeley, Klang

Have heard much about fried porridge in Klang... Just by hearing 'fried porridge', it gave me such mixed feelings... It's something so different, makes me really wanna try this, yet, can't imagine how porridge will taste like, being fried.

Was there weeks ago, and all their dishes are prepared in 1 size only... thus, for those who came with only 2 pax, there may be a little disadvantage, as they would probably be so full after just 1 bowl of fried porridge.

All 4 of us agreed that this bowl of fried porridge was indeed tasty. The crispy pork lard used definitely played a big role in making this dish taste so much better.. It also has chunks of chicken, and dried cuttlefish. Yumms!

Fried Porridge. Price-RM12

We also ordered the fried meehoon with mantis shrimp (with a min order of 10pcs).. The mantis shrimp was definitely tasty, though it isn't that easy to peel of its shell, and require some skills.

Mantis Shrimp. Price-RM32

The steam lala was also good, though the size of the lala was a little too small. It's steamed with chinese wine, with ginger and chilli padi. Simple and nice.

Steam Lala. Price-RM18

This restaurant is mainly patronized by families, and the crowd was getting bigger nearer to dinner time. Overall this is a place serving good meal at reasonable price. Total bill came up to RM65.80 for 4 pax.

The Teapot Deli @ SACC Mall, Shah Alam

I had the best roast chicken, chicken pie and scones, all within a meal. Can you all sense the 100% satisfaction that I had?

I met up with an ex-colleague, Honey (Haneda) on Monday, and since SACC mall was just closeby her house, we decided to have our meal at The Teapot.. Yes, I've eaten at its branch at Teapot, SS2 a long time ago, and looked forward to try this outlet, which is nearer to my home.

Love the cosy-ness within the restaurant. Of course, living up to its name, teapots are the main deco item within here.
The Teapot Deli.. The scones, looking irresistible to me...

Ordered their Roast Chicken, a popular dish here. This was indeed the best plate of Roast Chicken I tasted over. Its delicately marinated chicken leg, roasted with garlic and honey, tasted extremely delicious. The meat was so tender, and the sauce was thick enough. So full of taste. And the roasted potato, was tasty to max!

Roast Chicken. Price-RM15

Took a little Country Chicken Pie to try. This was really upclass. The crust was crispy with soft feel of fluffiness, and a bite of that together with the filling so filled up with chicken chunks, mushroom, Yum Yum! The overall taste was enhanced by pouring the brown sauce on top.. They provide very generous portion of the brown sauce ;)

Country Chicken Pie. Price-RM12

Just look at how rich and filled up was the filling inside this pie

I've tried many other places that sell scones, but if I were name the Best, in terms of No 1, I would think The Teapot Deli's scones would win, bar none!
The fresh scones were placed at the warmer, and will be heated up, just a short while, before serving. It adds the crisp to the scones.. Crispy outer layer, with the light texture of the scone, inside.. OMG!!! We couldn't stop ourselves praising the scones with each bite. The entire scone will be good to eat as it is, and it was extremely filled with fragrant buttery smell.
Best of all, it was extremely value for money. With RM4, it comes with a pair of scone, clotted cream and strawberry jam.

Typica @ Jalan Changkat Thambi Dollah, KL

Last week, I've been to THE place that offers the finest coffee. This must be a blessing for the coffee connoisseurs.

From the first few pictures of this post, one may mistaken these for scene within a science lab. This small sized cafe, yet extremely cosy, is located at Shaw Parade. Pacino, knowing that I love cakes, shared with me about Typica, and emphasized a few times on how yummy is the cake here, and how unique, of the coffee served here. Thus, arranged for him to share this little hidden 'gem' with me.

I began my conversation in Mandarin with the super friendly staff... And with my level of '1/2 bucket' level, I got 'lost' at some point as the Mandarin gone a little too 'deep' for me.

1 thing though, can really feel the enthusiasm, passion and her knowledge on coffee.

Siphon Coffee brewing process. I enjoyed every moment looking at how delicate the staff was throughout the process.

The more special brewing process that one has to try is their Siphon Coffee, for hot coffee, and the Ice Drip for the cold coffee.

For the Siphon process, the staff will only grind the coffee beans upon ordered. We were explained that should beans are being grind earlier, with its exposure with air, the originality of the taste will be lost. Oh, makes me feel like we are about to drink something, oh so precious..

We were brought plates of beans for the Siphon coffee we ordered... 1 Guatemala beans, and 1 Brazilian beans .. I even took 'em raw, and they were so fragrant, and crunchy.. Just like eating some kinda nuts.

Plates of Guatemala & Brazilian coffee beans

The beans were roasted raw (ie. without adding sugar/butter) as per some coffee roasting process...

The process of Siphon Coffee, which I bet one will wait patiently :
2 parts to the boiling pot,
bottom with boiling water... top part grinded coffee..
upon boiling, the water will rush up to the top part... and cooked together with the coffee..
upon which, the coffee will flow to the bottom part, leaving behind the grinded coffee.

The other 'equipment' for Siphon coffee. Interesting huh?

This is a method not used by many, as most other business are set towards generating most sales possible, and this method would take up too much time. For those who really appreciate coffee, one will definitely be hooked with coffee from Typica.

We were also informed later that the Ice Drip method would be even stronger, as each drip of coffee goes through the grinded beans. This has to be prepared earlier, as the dripping drip by drip, will take much longer.

The coffee maker for the 'Ice-Drip' process.

The smell of my cup of Guatemala coffee was so elegant and complex. It strike the right balance between refined acidity with a soft spice flavor. Took it without sugar, for a change, otherwise, will feel I will miss out on tasting the originality of this beans.
Enjoying my coffee. Price-RM13 per cup

Pacino, enjoying his..

Some polaroids inside Typica

We also ordered the Nutty Cheese Cake... This was a slice of high standard cake. Shaved chocolate, in between cheese, wrapped within spongy cake, top with caramel almond, and pumpkin seeds.
Each layer clearly distinct itself, and you could taste all of this within 1 mouthful. And yes, right level of sweetness..It was just a combination done so perfectly..

Nutty Cheese Cake. Price-RM10 per slice

Nutty Cake... I can see you are being slowly savored

Overall, I am impressed with how well they have made use of the limited space, at the corner of this building. Yellow warm lighting complements the entire setting.

Chatting with the staff. Man, there's just so much to learn, about coffee

A blurry view of the cafe.. simply love the flowers used as deco here

Overall, the price range of coffee here is above average. However, one can be assured they will be getting a cup of good quality coffee.

"I'LL BE BACK" ><

Nancy's Kitchen @ Jalan Hang Lekir, Malacca

Yes, I love the state of Malacca... However, the 1 significant thing I experienced during my last weekend was : HOT, HOT & HOT!!

I was certainly pleased with the opening of the latest and fashionable boutique right at the Jonker Street, MART, which enabled me to spend quite a fair bit of time 'indoor'... And love the entire 'MART' concept, and just love the vibrant colors of the interior and also the clothing here..

Entrance of MART

After shopping, we all needed to fill our stomach, thus, headed to the famous nyonya food around Jonker, ie. Nancy's Kitchen.
As it was 1pm+, it doesn't come as a surprise that we had to wait quite a fair bit for our seat.

My hat fits Qi well

Ordered the Top Hat (Pai Tee). Love the crispy top hat case, and this was definitely gorgeous in presentation. Pai Tee is eaten together with filling that combines the cooked sengkuang, fried shallots, egg and parsley.

Pai Tee. Price-RM4.50 for 5 cones (in 1 serving)

Anything cold during this weather spells 'arrgh, relief'.. haha... This simple bowl of cendol definitely beats the famous '88 Jonker'...

Cendol. Price-RM3

Wanted something non spicy for the kids, so ordered the fish ball with egg roll soup. Boiled together with some vege, this is pure simple and nothing special really. Fishball was also very ordinary tasting.

Fish Ball Soup. Price-RM7 (S)

We absolutely loved this signature dish of Nancy Kitchen. Cooked using lot of candle nut, this dish carried a strong smell of lemongrass. The chicken was cooked long enough, as it was really tender.

Chicken Candlenut. Price-RM10 (S)

This pork rib dish is also available in duck meat. The ribs are marinated with coriander and then stew with spices. This dish has a slight sweetness taste, and not too bad a choice.

Monte's @ Taman Intan, Klang

Somehow, I felt that I've under-explored eateries in Klang. A friend shared with me that Monte's is one of her favorite western food restaurant, and thus suggested to family to try the food here, last week.

Sis and family had settled for Windmill in the past, out of no other choices that she knew, is relieved to discover Monte's.

Monte's at Taman Intan occupies the corner lot, and we love the roomy, simple and lots of white used in its interior.

Inside Monte's

The only set back is that the staff is not really equipped to recommend much to its customers, and could hardly explain much when asked further about the menu.

Nevertheless, we enjoyed our meal, as the overall food here were good.

The Black Pepper chicken meat was real tender and juicy, topped with lots of black pepper sauce. The potato wedges also tasted good.

Black Pepper Chicken. Price-RM15.90

The Mexican Chicken, grilled to perfection, and topped with spicy sauce, cooked with lots of tomato, onion and capsicum. A sauce mixed with sour and spicy taste, yumms!

Mexican Chicken. Price-RM15.90

The favorite of all was the Fettuccine al Salmone. Fettuccine filled with thick creamy sauce, and chunks of salmon... this was just so tasty...though creamy, but doesn't make you sick of it.. ;)

Fettuccine al Salmone. Price-RM19.90

The Grilled Fish with garlic butter sauce had such a pleasant aroma to it.

Grilled Fish with butter and garlic sauce. Price-RM16

First round of experience - passed! This is actually a branch out of Monte's at BSC (which my friend told me very recently that the standard of food has dropped). Anyway, I do like the standard of food at this Monte's in Klang.

Ho Chiak @ Taman Intan, Klang

Ho Chiak started business, in this really simple set-up shop, on 10 Sep 2010. Ho Chiak's specialty being red wine chicken rice, and red wine chicken mee suah, however they also sell other kind of noodles, pumpkin rice and soup.

I could smell the chinese red wine even from a few shoplots away, before reaching.

Tried the redwine mee suah, and one sip, the 'kick' kicks in. Thick soup, cooked with red wine used, and lots of ginger. The mee suah was cooked together with pieces of chicken, mushroom and black fungus. For those who would like a stronger taste of ginger, they could help themselves to add on more.

Redwine Chicken Mee Suah

Also ordered the pumpkin rice to try. Tasty rice filled with pumpkin and chicken.
