Delucca @ One Residency, KL

The yearly Christmas gathering is an occasion, we, the ex-Starcommers look forward to. Apart from to catch up, we look forward to trying out new or interesting restaurants, with the right Christmas 'feel' to suit the occasion. We decided on having it at Delucca for our 2009 Christmas gathering.

I first got in touch with Sen to propose us a list of food combining starter, soup, main course and dessert at the price of RM60++ per pax. He with the chef came out with a proposed list of food, which we approved right away.

Just to set the records straight, we had a really wonderful tasting dinner. However, I don't seem to do very well in taking low lighting pictures, and somehow the pictures did not turn out as desired. *^*

We were first served bread, to be dipped onto vinegar, and olives.

From top : Bread, Soup : Hot & Spicy Tomato Soup, Dessert : Trio Classic

It was then followed by a generous portions of starter (each plate to be shared by 4), which all of us were really pleased with. The starter includes, a plate of assorted bruschetta (variety of toppings), fried calamari served with special sauce, mixed seasonal vegetables and green leaves, and the classic italian aubergine dish called the "Parmigiana". Love the cheesiness, slight sourness, and sweetness of the aubergine.

From L to R : The starters : Bruschetta, Calamari, Mixed Vege

Starter : Aubergine dish called "Parmigiana"

As for the soup, most found it overly sour tasting, but a few of us think it was alright.

Prior to our dinner, we were given a choice of 3 items as our main course which includes :
- home made crepes pasta baked with mixed vegetables bechamel and tomato sauce
- chicken supreme cooked in butter & sage and served with mushroom and broccoli sauce
- deep fried Norwegian salmon steam served with lemon & dill sauce and fries

The most popular choice was the chicken dish, which was what I opted for. The place of chicken with extra touch of 'love shape' does made us a little extra excited as well. It was grilled chicken breast meat, which tasted a little dry, but glad the sauce made-up for it.

Chicken Supreme in butter & sage with mushroom and broccoli sauce

The 2nd popular choice was the norwegian salmon steak. It has a real savory aroma, and was fried till real crispy, yet the salmon meat was still delicate.

Following the big portion of starters, and also the main course, some of us can't even finish the main dish. So conclusion, value for money.. ^<>^

The dinner ended with a good spread of 'mini' dessert - trio classic italian sweets of tiramisu, rum baba and chocolate mousse.

Overall it was a good dinner. We also had a cake to celebrate the Nov and Dec babies birthday.

Round the long table, singing birthday song

The 4 birthday babies - Beng Geok, Fred, Casyn and Karen. Must be something funny that they all burst into laughter.

And the most important of all, picture time... As it was a big group of us, had to figure out where's the right spot.

Kawan-kawan, mari kita beratur untuk tangkap gambar *<>*

Smile everyone, and show the 'peace' sign please

To ensure all our heads are covered, we requested for the staff to stand on chair to capture our next group photo.
Clarice laughing too hard, that her head was hidden. Haha.

And to end the night, gift exchange time..

Presents.... who doesn't love presents???

Look forward to more gatherings. Merry Christmas everyone.. (though it has way passed the dinner, and Christmas day).. ^<>^

Dae Sa Kwan @ Sri Hartamas

Prior to our trip to Siem Reap, arranged for a meet up between the 4 of us that were going. Narrowed our choice to Korean food, and my No 1 choice for Korean is Dae Sa Kwan at Sri Hartamas, thus suggested to have lunch there.

The banchan served here is really one of the best, in terms of taste and the wide selection, compared to what's served by other Korean restaurants around town. This is one of the best part of Korean food - unlimited free serving of banchan.

Up to 13 variety of banchan served

A little reading and discussion on Siem Reap before the actual trip

The BBQ pork tasted just alright.

The BBQ chicken was a little more interesting. It came in a hot bowl and with lots of gravy. The ala kim chi sauce was a little spicy, to me.

From the few times I've had the seafood pancake here, the seafood pancake tasted extraordinarily good that day. It has generous portion of seafood within the pancake, and we can even taste the freshness of the seafood used.

Seafood Pancake. Price-RM30

I have always love ginseng chicken soup. This soup also known as 'samgyetang' is boiled using whole young chicken, which is stuffed with glutinous rice, and boiled in a broth of Korean ginseng, dried seeded jujube fruits, garlic and ginger. Yum yum.

Korean Ginseng Soup. Price-RM35

We also ordered a bowl of kimchi stew - it was bubbling hot when served. For kimchew lovers, this will be an ideal choice. Cooked together with beancurd, golden mushroom and slices of pork.

Overall, it was a fantastic Korean lunch. After the lunch, we can't wait to visit Angkor Wat together, in just the next few days. Yipee!!

Restoran Xenri @ Old Klang Road

I was all excited when I was on my way to Xenri, as I've heard about this place serving buffet, like 2 years ago. And I've heard it from soo many people, claiming Xenri as one of the best Japanese buffet.

I was pleasantly surprised when I parked my car in front of Xenri, as the whole area was real serene. What a big difference from the ever busy Old Klang Road.

In front of Xenri

Though Xenri was packed with customers, however, the flow of people to the buffet corners around Xenri was just nice. Glad that there isn't the moment where people are "fighting" over sashimi/oyster. Hehe.

The corner where appetiser, sushi, oyster, fruit were located

For oyster served at buffets,if its big sized oyster, they are usually quite tasteless with overly slimy oyster. However, the oyster here, though big enough, tasted good and fresh. Each oyster were careful cleansed before they were placed on the 'serving boat'.

Big yet yummy oyster

On the outside of Xenri, tables were placed where customers will find the teppanyaki, tempura, sukiyaki, and grilled meat and vegetables being served.
All items were freshly cooked

I especially love the tempura prawn. The batter of prawn was just nice - isn't too thick, and the prawn has a taste of sweetness and freshness.
Tempura prawn, and chicken sukiyaki

My stomach was nearing to burst, and it was then when I remembered I have not tried the 'Daikon - white radish' soup, and since Rina highly recommended this, I walked out to the buffet table, to get myself a bowl of Daikon soup. This was my favorite out of all I've eaten from the buffet. The soup was the sweetest I've tried and it all came from the natural sweetness of the white radish used in the soup. I also love the seafood taufoo, hard boiled egg, and the other types of 'fishball' that were used to cook this.

Bowl of the must-have Daikon soup

Sweet moment, Rina & BC, happily chatting away

Had many rounds of food, and this was the final round of food we had that afternoon

The spread of fruit and dessert available

The green tea ice-cream, longan, cincau, peanuts, pineapple were just amongst of the items we added to this bowl of ABC. And it was a real satisfying end to our buffet.

Yummy Air-Batu-Campur

Xenri overall offers a very relaxing environment

Apart from tasting a really good spread of buffet, and most importantly, good quality food (worth paying RM46++ per adult)- it was also a fruitful lunch - as it is from this lunch that I have extra 2 'kaki' to join me to Siem Reap. Yay!!

Lao Qian Ice Cafe @ Malacca

Was in Malacca recently with my adorable nieces and sis.

For the fun of it, we took the young ones for trishaw ride. Different trishaws were decorated differently, based on creativity of the driver. Impressive.. And above it all, the trishaw actually has a CD player and speaker, and throughout our 10mins ride or so, it was playing Michael Jackson's songs - "Beat It" and "Billie Jean".

Yao, Me, Sis and Qi, on the beautifully decorated trishaw

Aren't they cute? Yao & Qi attempting to show the 'peace' sign

Before leaving Malacca, wanted to have a bowl of cendol, and the nearest to where we were, was the Lao Qian Ice Cafe, located inside San Shu Gong building.

Inside San Shu Gong. Business was real good

As most other restaurants selling cendol was selling at the range of RM2, felt RM5.80 for a bowl of cendol with durian is a little expensive. Minus the pricing factor, we really didn't find it good. It was a real ordinary bowl of cendol, which was real sweet, and with the hard texture of the 'cendol', it made me felt like I was eating some partial frozen cendol. The only special part of this bowl of cendol is the durian shaped holder.

Disappointed with the bowl of cendol, my sis went to shop around 'Sam Shu Gong' and after sampling the white coffee, she continuously tells me that it was realllly good. Bought packs home to drink. *<>*

McD Prosperity Burger @ Take-away

McDonalds has always been a brand close to my heart.

Its the time of the year where the Prosperity Beef and Prosperity Chicken are available, for a limited time only.

My stomach was 'hitting-drum' (ta ku translated to Cantonese, which means real hungry) on the afternoon of Christmas eve, thus when I was nearing Centrepoint drive-through, thus, grabbed a Prosperity Chicken for myself and a Prosperity Beef for Babe-Jo.

Prosperity Chicken-waiting to be unwrapped

While I was busy taking photos, babe aka Jo took a few bite of her Beef Prosperity Burger

Lots of black pepper sauce

Another shot of Chicken Prosperity Burger

I suppose different people has different POV on this prosperity burger, either one will love it or hate it. For me, I have not missed eating Prosperity Chicken (I don't take beef) for the each limited time it is sold, since the last few years. I just love the juicy chicken patty dipped in black pepper sauce, topped with onion, tucked in sesame seed bun (sentence copied from McD's site.. keke).
Though I do find the overall black pepper sauce overwhelming, I still liked this.

Babe suggested to add mayo onto the burger.. it actually tasted good, eaten together.

Mayo with Prosperity Chicken

Me, enjoying each bite of my burger

After eating the burger, I was going around babe's home to take photo.
Babe joined me in this picture - reflection of us from her dining table. Hehe.

Restoran Oversea @ Imbi, KL

We took advantage of the fact that we are already in KL to dine at Oversea. The restaurant has quite a good crowd by the time we got there at 6pm, and without reservation, the only table available is by the garden, ie. outside, without air-condition. After much persuasion and highlighting the fact that we are just there to eat, and will leave immediately after, we got the lucky table, no 18.

A friend shared with me that he read in a food review, that Oversea's bbq pork is 1 of the food one must have before they die... Though sounded 'kua cheong', I seem to agree to a certain extend.

Busy chopping the bbq pork

Qi, though was sleepy, managed to pull through dinner, for the love for food.

Qi, patiently waiting for her food to be served

Feel like having soup, and was recommended the black chicken boiled with sea coconut. This was a really 'pou' soup and sweet - for it contained black chicken, pork, white fungus, dried sea coconut, and a kind of snail. Of course we only found out about the snail when we were curiously asking what was that, when we were served. It tasted a little like abalone, but upon hearing snail, and it not being a common item used in soup, we expected to pay high price for this soup.

Black Chicken with Sea Coconut Soup. Price-RM80

The beancurd though being fried till golden yellow on the outside, its inner part was real soft and smooth - feels a bit like having tau foo fa.

Beancurd. Price-RM21

The steamed chicken was fresh, and love the simple soya sauce and the fragrant fried garlic that accompanied the chicken.

Steamed Chicken. Price-RM28

We love how this brinjal was cooked - it has really strong taste - a combination of sambal, 'tau-chiong', chilli and dried prawns.

Brinjal. Price-RM16

The highlight of the dinner must be this plate of bbq pork. It was roasted so well that we took each bite slowly, in order to enjoy every bite of it. The best part of the meat that I love was the slightly burnt and harder part which carried the sweet taste of honey.

Hot & Roll @ Pavillion

Was at Pavillion with my family yesterday. Pavillion's Christmas deco is one of the nicest, and needless to say, most grand of all the shopping malls I've seen, around Klang Valley.

Many beautifully decorated Christmas trees

Since we were not too hungry, we went to MOF ice-cream, for drinks and dessert. I can't seem to suppress my craving for crepes when I passed 'Hot & Roll'. It reminded me of this crepe that I really love-chicken floss with seaweed, that used to operate from Jusco, Bandar Baru.

While waiting to be served at MOF, I went to buy a crepe, and since chicken floss is my favorite, ordered the chicken floss crepe. There are in fact quite a number of customers queuing, waiting for their crepes.

Step 1 : Clean the flat pan, pour in batter

Step 2 : Flatten & even up the batter

Step 3 : Add chicken floss, onion and mayonnaise

Step 4 : Fold them in 3
Ready to be eaten. Chicken Floss Crepe. Price-RM5.90

The steps to make this crepe looked rather simple, for an end-result that tasted simply delicious. Love the smell of the crepes - a little like 'egg-roll' smell. Combined with crispiness on the top part of the crepes, and slightly soft at the inner part of the crepes, the crepes is just the right snack to have, for tea time.
